I'm sorry. I mistook you for arrogant jerk on this thread. Immature people like that really bother me. Their pride and self absorption is maddening. It's people like that the are really irresponsible Demoncrats and they are too blind to see it. They poly parrot just what the Demoncrats advocate.

I think you are confusing him with the arrogant self righteous people who judge others because they are not in 100% lockstep with their views and lifestyle.

“so, you think it’d be better to live in a shack, barely able to survive, have one parent a complete stranger because they’re busting their hump 60+ hours a week, not be able to afford anything extra- for the kids of course, because in your world a parent would sacrifice everything imaginable- so the kids can grow up in absolute misery, ridiculed and mocked at school for their unkempt appearance, jealous of the other kids who actually get to do things, and end up worse off than if the other parent worked?”

I'm sorry to see you think you need to be EXTREME and “live in a shack”. I suppose you are referring to Obama’s half brother that lives in a “shack”? When are you going to give up on these useless and idiotic EXTREMES that black you from dealing with your own demise?

If you want to be a “complete stranger” to your kids, you are certainly accomplish ing that.

It's really hard to follow your convoluted and EXTREME thinking that you use to justify your idiotic path in life.
I'll give it a try though.

“absolute misery, ridiculed and mocked at school for their unkempt appearance,...”

So living within your means will subject your kids to “absolute misery,”?

So living within your means must require extreme neglect in personal hygiene - “ridiculed and mocked at school for their unkempt appearance,..” ?????

So living within your means will have your kids,
“jealous of the other kids who actually get to do things,..” Sir, there is something wrong with your values if your kids will be JEALOUS of other kids for material things and what they DO. If you lived in a neighborhood within your means there would be less jealousy and envy since you would be in a similar income bracket.

“no. in too many cases, that second income means that the time that the parents do have with their children becomes a more meaningful time.”

Ah, you bought into “quality time”. Guess what? Sit down this may be hard to believe but KIDS DON'T schedule their needs for your convenience. Ah, but they will replace you with THINGS, if that is all you give them. They will also NOT have TIME for you when they are grown. You will have shown to them they were not important enough for your precious time.

“that there is money left over for setting up savings accounts for college, money for the children to be involved in activities, money for vacations, to see family. money for birthday parties, and Christmas. for piano lessons, or dance classes, or baseball, or whatever activies they choose.”

My, my ALL these THINGS and ACTIVITIES are necessities! My, my. Who are you trying to fool, other than yourself? You fool no one else.

“Ideally, yes, a parent should be able to stay home, but it is not always possible.”

“but heck, if one parent stays home, why shouldn’t both?”

The more you continue the more extreme YOU Get? Sure you can stay home. In fact let your wife work and you can be the stay at home mom. Is it right? Of course not. I can see you have to use EXTREMES to justify your life and try to vilify me. It isn't working. It never does for people that THINK instead of FEEL.

“should we advocate a more amish living where both parents are around all the time?”

Excuse me but the Amish don't sit around all the time. Dad goes to work and Mom raises the kids. The more you talk the more I feel sorry for you. Yo have no idea of what you are talking about.

“that the kids begin working around the house with their parents about as soon as they can walk? the kids would sure get more time with their parents.”

I see o problem with kids doing chores around the house. You should want to have them work up to personal responsibility. I'm sorry you see that as repulsive and a good way to spend time with parents - truly twisted... . Should I use you logic and suggest they have personal maids as a life necessity? Perhaps you were deprived of a maid when you grew up and GASP maybe had to do some chores and you certainly don't want YOUR KIDS to have to endure that kind of individual responsibility. See anyone can play the extreme game you do!

“also lets consider, that in the time when stay at home moms were the norm, what actually happened with the kids?”

Moms raised their kids. They didn't allow the left to undermine them. It was also the norm. You didn't see the out of control kid headlines that we routinely see today. They weren't perfect but they did take pride in raisin their own kids. It was better than today, that's for sure!

“i remember getting up during summer and everyday leaving the house and only coming back for lunch, then running right back out. i never saw my mom anyway, what was the point of her being home?”

Perhaps you didn't need her as much at that age? Would you rather she left for work and IGNORED that YOU EXISTED? You sound very ungrateful for the sacrifices your parents made for YOU. How sad. I hope your mother never knows this - how you have disrespected her personal sacrifice and unselfish love for you. It's almost as though you RESENT this as you continue to mock all of it with laughable EXTREMES to justify what you are doing. How tragic.

Yep, you nailed it. Parents who send their kids to Day Care are the devil's spawn and responsible for the downfall of society as we know it.

WOW are you serious? You are that judgemental without knowing others? It must be great to be as perfect as you and able to know others without knowing at all.

When I went back to work I worked part time while my children were in school and was always home before they were and always available to take them to after school sports, cheer, 4H, FFA, BPA, Mock Trial- you name it they did it. My girls all went to the kids rodeos on weekends. We did all of this as a family.

My oldest daughter married a fine hard working young man after college and he was well on his way to having a successful business, they had one child and she was a stay at home mom. For whatever reason, he became a meth addict and rehab was not successful. He has been in and out of rehab and prison and totally unavailable as a parent since my grandson was two; for the last six years. He does not work and pays no child support at all. My daughter went to nursing school so she could get a good enough job to not be on welfare. I am very proud of her and think she made the very best of a very bad situation, and still is doing her best. Do you think my son-in-law became a drug addict and abandoned his family responsiblities because I worked part-time when my kids were older? Really?

I did greet my children off the bus every day, and listened to their worries and still do listen to their worries even though my oldest is 30 and my youngest is 21- just for your information. Funny you are so sure of yourself- I know many stay at home moms that had daughters get pregnant as teens, end up on welfare. Good for you that you are so perfect with the perfect life.

Just sayin’ you can kiss my a$$

“I think you are confusing him with the arrogant self righteous people who judge others because they are not in 100% lockstep with their views and lifestyle. “

No, no “arrogance” here. Twist someone else’s words around. Being the armature that you are, you probably believe you are clever - LOL!

I ma not “self righteous”. I have learned from mistakes. I have wisdom. I also use common sense. My views on lifestyle are what has worked for centuries. It it timeless truth that you and others are free to REJECT. You will pay a price for it and when you do, don't be surprised.

Name calling, “arrogant self righteous” people who judge others because they are not in 100% lockstep with their views and lifestyle” won't change the truth of how those that OPPOSE timeless truth are the ones that are the arrogant self righteous people” who btw are also “judging” me by their selfish and narcissistic CHOICES in life.

Doesn't it get old, even to YOU, to call others hypocrites, with "judging others" when out of your mouth the whole point is to JUDGE ME as wrong? Could you please knock off the ridiculous hypocrisy? You are JUDGING me and using INSULTS to back up YOUR JUDGEMENTS.

Truly check out DU they are experts on self righteous hypocrisy and you would FEEL more comfortable with them. At DU they are AGAINST anything that I would have to say on the subject of humility and personal responsibility.

You may continue to call what it RIGHT, wrong and what is WRONG, right. You are not alone. Take comfort with misery, if you must. I am pointing out what it wrong is still wrong and can not be justified in any age. It is part of the demise of our culture and people like you defend the demise. Whether you realize it or not, you are defending the decline in our social mores and our culture.

Now that is a funny list, but unfortunately so true to many FReepers! I qualify to be a non-conservative in many of those same areas and a few more:)

I love my credit card and won’t be giving it up any time soon, and horrors of all horrors...I don’t always pay the balance in full each month

The entire self written ‘blog’ post is at #29 of this thread. Anecdotal at best (a 7 month old on oxygen being cared for at a daycare whose personnel are NOT medically trained? Yeah right...no liability issue there...) and the heart wrenching query (posed to a supposed older sibling also in daycare hell...’what color PILL did mommy give little Johnny this morning...’) Huh? Pill? Toddler? Try next time ‘liquid Tynenol.’ A ‘unique’ blogged down ‘link’ to personal page. By a relatively noobie FReeper...designed (possibly?) to stir up a little ‘absolutes’ colliding fun and games on these here Internets...

Sorry kiddies there ARE real topics for discussion...but this is a little too ‘convenient.’

By the way- where did you get the idea all my daughters are single parents? Only the oldest is. My middle daughter is 25, not married and no children. My youngest is married, has a baby and is a stay at home mom.

None of my daughters were unmarried pregant teens as is the stereotype of single parent mothers, and seems to be the conclusion you jumped to. That is another myth for another time. I know several single parent moms and the reason most are is because hubby decided to get a new girlfriend/wife. I have yet to meet a single parent mom that chose that situation.

i am a stay at home mom. i do greet my kid when he gets off the bus, i ask about his day and i listen to his response. he does chores and earns his allowance. he is a very intelligent, responsible, kind , honest, and considerate fellow.
my little girl is 4 and i hope she turns out just the same as her brother.
all that being said, having read through all of this thread, some of your posts are just flat out offensive. stop being so sanctimonious and holier than thou. we as parents do what is best for our families and you are no more an expert on what is best for some other family than the government is. stop telling us that if we do not agree with your edict we are idiots and democrats. because, quite frankly, you sound quite like those loony liberals who demand that we agree with them or be vilified.

the OPPORTUNITY, yes. but its not a requirement. i want to know that my children *can* do activities if they want to. how is it going to help little johnny or susie be happy and productive in life if you’re constantly telling them “we can’t afford that” and they resent you for it?
you also might consider that if you’re focussing on ‘family,’ what about being able to afford trips to see grandparents and aunts and uncles and cousins? that’s important family time that should be spent too.

and yes, my 6 year old just got a cell phone. and to me, that $10/month is worth every penny. her being able to text me anytime she wants so i can talk to her is important to me- so i can communicate with her more. also, its helping to improve her reading and writing skills (we use correct spelling, not the txt shorthand).

Yes, i think its preferable to have a stay at home parent, but when its to the child’s advantage to have the extra income, i believe that you can make thier lives better if you can afford to have family time and actually do things.

Bingo!!! I figure if they want to preach their self-righteousness omnipotent views, go ahead. I, like many other conservatives, have had too many life experiences to say there is no other way than my way, and I wouldn’t dare condemn somebody because they weren’t in agreement with me. I don’t want to walk in their shoes because He will make sure they get the lessons they need.

Apparently Tammy, you just don't get it. Your daughter should have had ESP or a Magic 8 Ball to tell her the guy she wanted to marry was going to turn out to be a drug addict. It's all her fault.

The FR Inquisition Brigade has spoken, so it must be true.

Yup. Considering i only get to see her on weekends, every chance i can get to talk with her is important. It may not be ideal, but its what i can do to get in as much time with her as possible. Its not about her having a toy, its about me getting that extra time to talk to her.
