The race for the Governor of Ohio remains tight with incumbent Ted Strickland still trailing Republican John Kasich. Strickland is largely blamed for the loss of thousands of jobs during the economic downturn while Kasich is well-regarded as a former Congressman. This is one of the hardest-fought races in the country right now, with Strickland intentionally tacking to the left in hopes of rallying the working class.

Why would the ‘working class’, who arguably are suffering the most with these failed liberal policies, respond favorably to the sitting failed governor purposely tacking further to the left? Do they have a death wish? Are they brainwashed by their union bosses? So, based on this tactic, they were lukewarm about voting for the Dem candidate a couple weeks ago, but if he goes hard socialist left, all of a sudden they are going to be motivated to come out for the Dem party?

Kasich is a very unattractive candidate compared to Blackwell. His "more dollars in the classroom" ad annoys me greatly.

Kasich’s dollars in the classroom proposal is basically the same one Blackwell had, but Ken had more specifics (minimum percentage of dollars in the classroom)

Blackwell’s problem was that he got stomped by around 25 percentage points. The first step in turning this state around is to give the boot to as many ‘Rats as possible, starting at the top. Beating Strickland is priority number one.

I respectfully disagree. Getting rid of anyone with a D next to their name and replacing them with an R only perpetuates mediocre conservatism in the Republican party. I’m yearning for a firebrand with brass balls that will take on unions and radically reform education. Do Ohio Republicans ever purpose right-to-work legislation? How about tax credits for homeschoolers? Never. I'm not happy about a few thinks Ted Strickland has done but he is not a typical Democrat. He’s milk toast and a choir boy compared to the Democrats of Cuyahoga County. He signed Ohio’s concealed carry law and participated in the 2010 National Matches at Camp Perry.

Since you have no evidence that shows Kasich is crook, I must ask the question, 'Why did you vote for Strickland'?

Of coutse it’s being reported the race is tightening. All races showing huge R leads are supposedly being narrowed.
The MSM has to give the welfare crowd a reason to do something next Tuesday, since working won’t be 1 of them.

I have known John Kasich since his days in the Ohio Senate and he has pretty decent conservative credentials. I know he's not the ideal TrueConservative^TM many on FR yearn for, but few people are, and even fewer end up getting elected. Right now, given the election as it stands, he's a better choice than the alternative.

My impression of Ted Strickland is that he may be a decent enough fellow but he has been totally ineffective as a Governor. He seems to spend a lot of time on the campaign trail for Obama and seems to be Obama's No. 1 cheerleader/groupie in the state, all the while we're bleeding jobs and losing people to better climes and places.

I agree with your view of Strickland. If he was willing to through his own party under the bus, he might get reelected. Many of Ohio's problems have been caused by the federal government. For example, a Cleveland bank was bought by a PA bank that received bailout money, sending thousands of jobs to Pittsburgh.

Until the party starts leaning farther right, I will not vote for a GOP candidate because he is the lesser of two evils. I'm half hoping the Republican party goes the way of the Whigs and a true conservative party takes its place.
