The only people who should be allowed to collect from the imaginary "social security trust fund" are people who did not contribute to it.

To do otherwise would be racist.

For retirement, the Europeans have gone from 55 to 62; they want us to go from 65 to 70 - and if 0bama had his way - NEVER.

I would raise it to 80 at least, maybe even 85, but then put in a provision that anyone under 40 be exempt from paying any Social Security tax whatsoever because none of us will ever see a penny of Social Security or Medicare benefits in our lifetimes.

Sounds about right.
And it’s a good lesson to young fools who elecr liberals that TANSTAAFL.

It occurs to me that banks are missing out by not offering “SS bridge loans” to people who are in difficulty just prior to SS benefits kicking in. Wouldn’t fit everyone in that position of course.

1935...only 2% of the population aged past age 65...median death was 62 years. It was a good taxation scam for the first 3-4 decades. Its morphed into a nightmare.

Yes. Raise it to age 130. Then fold the Ponzi scheme before it robs anyone else of their hard-earned money which could have been invested wisely and profitably for their own retirement.

No, eliminate Medicaid, plus eliminate all retirements (and benefits) for senators and congress critters.

The retirement age for SS should be 65 for ALL currently employed persons. The personal contribution to SS should be raised.

New people entering the job market should be allowed to participate in SS OR invest in some SOLID equivalent pesonal instruments and provide verification of such investments in their income tax return, OR use a combination of retirement instruments.

We don’t need future generations on the public dole because they opted not to invest in tehir retirement in some way.

FINALLY, the Congress should be forbidden by LAW from using SS funds for any other purpose than SS payouts to retirees.

We have a friend who became a citizen 5 years ago. Three years ago she applied for Social Security. She NEVER worked ONE DAY in this country. Her SS is based on what her husband receives and that amount is about $100 more than what my mom (who’s worked for 40 years) gets.

Yeah, come to America and get “free stuff”. Disgusting.

Good idea. Then we can sell eliminating this abomination as “reform” ;-)

The French went to 62 for early retirement, 65 for full retirement.

yes...being in congress should be a call to serve, not a career choice. Getting rid of perks and retirements would bring natural term limits as well.

How about: End social security, treat us like free people, stop confiscating our money, and expect us to finance our own retirement if we choose, or suffer the consequences if we don’t.

Nah, that’ll never work.

The way SS was set up, financed and then looted, I don't see it as anything other than a payback to 'The Greatest Generation' and maybe the Korean War vets for their having saved the world. It should end with them.

The reality is, there is no viable way to pay for our population's retirement and golden years and it is criminal to pretend otherwise, regardless of what PR was used to sell it.

Means test the recipients so that it is a safety net for only the most needy and let the rest of us fend for ourselves and prepare for our old age just like we did prior to when this financial debacle was falsely sold to us.

Do it now before it bankrupts us all. Most of us know it won't be there when we are old enough to retire. We are too old to believe in make believe.

My question is how many people can do their current job at 60 years of age, let alone 68.
I realize that this really does not matter because there is no way to pay for SS in the future.

Just curious as to how the predators and parasites in DC plan to employ all the 60 year olds when they cant employ college grads, let alone the 40 million uneducated spanish speaking mexican army that invaded and helped the DofC destroy the middle class.

1. Eliminate the maximum contribution, or at least move it. It was a holiday in my household when I hit the maximum around bonus time. The rest of the year the SS money went into an IRA. But you could increase that without a ton of pain.

2. Stop using SS money for disabilities for people who paid nothing into the system.

3. Tell people when they have exhausted their contributions, and when they are on the “dole.” I have the hardest time trying to explain to the 88 year old mother in law that she got all of her money back from the system about two and a half years into her payments—twenty years ago.

4. Much like a lot of retirement programs, eliminate government payments until the person has reached at least 62. I know this won’t be popular, but we need to review the military pensions and other government pensions that start paying when the person might still be in their 50’s. I am a strong supporter of the military, but there has to be a way to protect and support our career soldiers without paying a 50% retirement when someone is in their late forties or early 50’s.

The personal contribution to SS should be raised.
Is that right? Do you know what the rate is now? Do you know your employer matches that "contribution?" (BTW, it ain't a contribution if the law mandates it.)
How much should we raise the "contribution" to - 10% - 15% - 20% ... when is it enough?
While SS has problems, the real problem is the SS fund has been tapped to death by the Dems to give every Tom, Dick and Harry goodies they didn't earn like SSI or paying for kids' college educations.
