Vegetarians Love Sarah Palin, Too
Clearly Nebulous ^ | December 6, 2010 | Colette Moran

... or, at least, this one does.

After reading The Time Machine at age 16, I stopped eating red meat and poultry. (Not The Jungle as more than a few people surmised...) The way I saw it, I wasn't going to wait until the 8028th century to decide whether or not I was an Eloi or a Morlock. But I have never been militant about it, just encouraging others to consume less meat for the health benefits.

I grew up with a Dad who went hunting a couple times a year, and relatives with a long tradition of hunting regularly. I was never thrilled about their stories, but I didn't give them a hard time. I found the argument about controlling animal populations hard to swallow -- but I matured and realized that the argument is valid. (Better for Bambi to starve/get hit by a car and die in vain, rotting on the ground -- or feed a family?)

I am now married to a man who usually chooses meat for dinner, but doesn't mind veggie chili over con carne. We have raised our children the same as he, although one chose to go vegetarian on her own. Another has sworn off pork products (which I almost never serve anyway) since she saw the movies Charlotte's Web and Babe. (Hmmm... maybe we should watch Chicken Run again...)

So when Sarah Palin talked about

As a vegetarian who loved Sarah Palin before she was a VP candidate -- I didn't just change my mind for political reasons -- I think there are plenty more veggies out there who like her despite her affinity for eating large game!

I’ve been a vegetarian most of my life and I like Sarah Palin. To me, it’s much more humane to eat wild game than slaughterhouse killed animals. At least the wild game had a free life. If all hunters ate every scrap of the animals they killed it would be good. Hunting for sport and leaving the carcass to rot is barbarian. Hunt it - eat it!

After Charlotte’s Web and Babe a thinking person should want to keep a populations of pigs employed—and thus extant. Supporting free range would, however, be near angelic. Supporting wild boar, I suppose, sublime.

There is nothing wrong with vegetarianism as a personal choice, especially if you're astute enough to know that you will need to mix in a variety of animal products other than meat along with supplements to have a diet that's nutritionally complete.

Not surprisingly, though, in an environment like Alaska that would be a hard choice to make. Most or all of one's food would have to be brought in freeze dried or flash frozen. To the best of my knowledge, no native peoples in America (including Todd Palin's relations in Alaska) were or are vegetarians. It seems to be a practice which developed along with towns and cities of the Indian sub-continent and there it has a strong religious basis.

But anyway you look at it, be it animal or plant, all life relies on the ability to kill and consume something else that's alive.

I’ve been a vegetarian most of my life and I like Sarah Palin.

I started approx 2 years ago. Best I have ever felt in my life.

I started my fitness regime at age 45 vowing to be the best shape of my adult life by age 50. Did not take that long as I'm 49 now and have abs for the first time in my life. First couple years I ate clean(lean red meat/chicken/fish) but then a guy I work out with gave me the basics and I saw his gains and I have not looked back.

To be honest though I will eat a steak or Turkey dinner every so often through special occasions like a company dinner or Thanksgiving.

I also take a milk based whey protein shake 2 times per day but for the most part I follow the diet.

You articulated exactly my position. I don’t eat meat because slaughterhouse practices disgust me. If it were to become medically necessary, I would eat bison because USDA requires that they be hunted aerially. When an animal is felled, the others in the herd are momentarily stunned. They are not panicked. The one who is felled feels neither terror nor pain. I would be completely comfortable eating it. It is also nutritionally dense. It is the right way for the 21st century.

Just as I personally chose not to be a surgeon (because I would suffer the loss of a patient too hard) or a soldier (because it would be difficult to pull the trigger)

Well Colette I will just quote a great General in reply to that statement:

"When shells are hitting all around you and you wipe the dirt off your face and realize that instead of dirt it's the blood and guts of what once was your best friend beside you, you'll know what to do!"

I eat no refined, pre-prepared foods and never eat hydrogenated fat, any chemical additives or preservatives. I cook all food at home from basic ingredients - whole grains, legumes, some nuts and seeds, milk products and vegetables and fruits. I also am an herbalist and take a goodly amount of herbs.

I’m much healthier at 60 than most people despite some chronic longterm health problems mostly due to a severe pesticide poisoning some years ago (from a crazy neighbor).

No commercial supplements as they are mostly made in China and whole foods and herbs are IMO much superior. The vegan diet is unnatural and very difficult to survive on.

My wife is a veterinarian and her best friend is one also who works for the state inspecting slaughterhouses/meatpacking houses. The companies who process food said the bad practices don't happen anymore but they do. Her friend is always fining companies and if more people knew what she sees they would become sickened by what happens. Out of sight, out of mind I guess. That being said my wife and her friends still eat meat LOL

I don't eat meat not so much of the animal rights issue but as I said before I feel the best under this diet.

I really don’t give a flying fig whether or not my food enjoyed life and became self actualized before hitting the ground, getting ground up, then finding my plate.

I don’t really care if they were happy or not, whether they ever got to know their grandparents or if their teacher thought that they would ever amount to anything.

Those animals have one main purpose in life and that is a food source.

Vegetables are what my food eats.

Anyone who doesn’t see that animals suffer has the hardest of hearts.

The herbs are a long story. I had RA, low thyroid and asthma, so took (and still take) herbs for those. RA is gone, thyroid much better and asthma rarely bothers me if I stay away from stuff like perfumes, smoke and some chemicals.

I take maintenance energy and immune enhancing formulas that I make myself. If you are interested, freepmail me and I can tell you more about them.

Watching the View and they showed a clip of that horrible comedian who was prancing around with Palins ex boy.

She was performing for the troops and talked potty mouth about Bristol and got BOOOOO’s from the crowds of servicemen.

Then Beheave commented “I hate the Palins’ and the Gays hate her too”.

Go Sarah!
