Who Can You Trust?

Of course, it's not over until it's over, but the disgusting frenzy going on in Congress right now, after the American people spoke loudly and clearly, is making me crazy. What has become very clear is two things: the Democrats want to undo the results of the election, and RINO Republicans didn't get the message at all.

Senator Jim De Mint, a conservative Republican from South Carolina and a hero of mine, wanted to have the Seanate read the Start Treaty from beginning to end, thus limiting the time the Democrats would have to inflict maximum damage on tax-paying citizens; then Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (a RINO) says we can't have that. Stay tuned and pray for your country. We need a Continuing Resolution to keep the government funded for a month or two, and defeats or delays of the new budget, of the so-called tax compromise, and of the ridiculous START Treaty.

Senator Brown has joined the RINOs, and the only politician I completely trust right now is Sarah Palin.

My understanding is that Mitch McConnell presented a 1 page resolution to keep the govt funded through Feb. I’m no fan of Mitchie the Kid but when he does something right we should acknowledge it. I’m sure he will cave on something else any moment now.

I agree with your sentiments... I hope that Freepers and Tea Partiers (of whom I consider myself to be one) give the new GOP House support and encouragement to take the message of Nov. 2 and press for the changes this nation so badly needs.

BTW, proper grammar would alter your headline to “Whom Can You Trust?” But Johnny Carson’s first show on TV had a title similar to yours (”Who Do You Trust”) with the same wrong grammar... So you’re in good company.

Whom can you trust? Apparently not 'Mike' McConnell.

For the nitpickers, both “who” and “whom” are appropriate in this usage (Dictionary.com).

Reminds me of a sign I saw in Cripple Creek, CO, in 1976 -- I believe in an auto repair place:

Helen Waite is our credit manager... if you want credit, go to Helen Waite!"

Wow, Cripple Creek! Did you ever take a drive through Phantom Canyon before they pussified that road? It was a real cliffhanger, and I'm not fooling. That drive is now pretty lame. I suppose they got tired of hoisting wrecks from the bottom.

I always enjoy a dirve through that area.

I don’t recall any scary driving going into Cripple Creek — we drove in from Flourisant (sp?). The scary drive I remember on that trip was leaving Yellowstone via the Northeast Gate over what was called at that time the Cooke City Highway (I think they have since changed the name). We left Yellowstone about an hour before dusk, so we were making this drive during dusk. I had no idea — single lane road leading up into the Rockies, elevation probably >10,000 ft., no guardrails the entire trip. This was around Labor Day, so very little traffic. My wife in the passenger’s side had views of drops of 3-4,000 ft. just over her shoulder. Kids in the backseat were fortunately falling asleep and unaware of how dicey this was. When we got to the summit, I saw a car pulled over to the side so I parked the car in the middle of the road went over and asked what they were doing. The driver said he wasn’t going another 100 yards — he had driven up from the other side out of Montana. I asked how bad that drive was and he told me about the same. But it was another 20-30 miles down the mountain with similar scariness. We pulled into a motel in Red Lodge, MT at the bottom of this drive and I was shaken.

That will always be my worst “cliffhanger” of a drive. Did you ever drive that one?

No, but I'll look for it next trip out West.

Your story reminds me of another one we drove about 50 miles west of Denver. This road was labeled "Oh My God Road" on the map. It was also a one lane road with no guard rails, and was pretty tense with 3-4000 foot drops as well. I had just asked "I wonder why they named this road...", when we came around a sharp curve, and everyone in the car yelled "Oh my God!" at the same time. It was a hairpen turn, with no guard rail that narrowed down into a mere jeep trail with a seriously out of sight drop near the crumbled part of the road. I drove as close to the rock as I could, even bumping the mirror on the rocks. I had cramps in my legs by the time I finished that little drive.

I recall that was near Kit Carson's grave ... but I was in a state of shock and don't really remember that shrine.

We do have some exciting places in our grand Nation!
