MSNBC: Bush's Book Is Popular Because He Was So Hated
Newsbusters.org ^ | 1-1-11 | Noel Sheppard

A Salon political writer gave MSNBC's Norah O'Donnell Friday for why Bush's book is selling better than Clinton's.

NORAH O’DONNELL: And one had the highest ever approval rating for a President, leaving the White House, 66 percent. The other, one of the lowest at 22 percent. So, you would imagine or you might imagine that the popular Bill Clinton’s presidential memoir would far outsell the one written by the very unpopular, unpopular George Bush. Well, guess what? In the two months, in just two months President Bush's “Decision Points” memoir has sold almost as many copies as President Clinton’s “My Life” sold in two years. Alex Pareene is political writer for Salon, and he’s going to tell us why. Alex, so why is that? Why has Bush’s memoir “Decision Points” sold so well?

ALEX PAREENE, SALON: Well, obviously we can't say for sure because we don't know why those two million people have bought it. But, there are, I’ve speculated a couple reasons. It may be the fact that he was hated by so many people actually helped fuel his book sales because people wanted to hear him actually justify himself and explain some of his decisions that he made. And, you know, there are, I mean you can imagine that some people bought it as a gag or some people got it, received it as a gift and didn't really want it. And also the fact is like there are Kindle copies now, there are ebooks that are much more popular and not that’s a much cheaper way to buy a book. But my favorite speculative reason is that it's just half as long as Clinton’s book. Clinton’s book is like 1,000 pages long and George W Bush got his presidency done in 500 pages and then he's out.

Oh yes. They hate him so much they aren’t rushing to picket & boycott.

They are throwing millions of dollars at him just to prove that they hate him...

If Bush is “hated”, maybe it’s because the media has been promoting that idea to mind-numbed sheep for years.

By that reasoning “Mein Kampf” should have been a bestseller here.

In my circles he was never hated, for the most part he was a far greater and honorable than the president just before him.

Of course those in my circles, worked to make honest living, loved our nation, served in our military, attended church. Leaned to the right, and did not look for dole outs from the government.

The only things in Clinton’s book that weren’t lies were the publisher’s mark and date.

He’s another lefty that’s never held a real job....and never will.

What, exactly could he do?

MSNBC: Bush's Book Is Popular Because He Was So Hated

Can't recall ever buying a book because I hated the author. I doubt many other people have either, certainly not two million.

And if Clinton was so loved then why is his book in the basement in sales? Ok, reverse Lib logic.

Didn't the liberals hate Reagan too.

The liberals are really delusional, if Bush Sr. was to run again against any Democrat thrown out there he probably would win by a land slide, not because the masses hate him but because the masses hate the Democrats.

Come 2012 I hope to see those hateful liberal journalist heads exploding as their world comes undone.

You know, he may be correct. As soon as WJC’s book came out I ran out and bought three copies; one for myself, one for a friend, and one for the library at the local Republican headquarters.

I also buy a lot of rap music ‘cause I hate it so much. Oh, and Scottish cook books. I have about a dozen of those.

By their "reasoning" MSNBC should be the highest rated net. Or, is FOX the highest rated because so many people hate it so much?

I'm so confused.

I bought “Dreams of My Father” by Barack Obama. I hate him, but I use it as a reference document to catch him in many of his lies. I have a sneaking suspicion he did not write it. However, for argument’s sake, lets say he did.

I’m just stunned that a living soul would actually say the things this jerk said.

Bush was so “hated”? The only people that hated Bush were the media. With them it was a religion.

And THIS is why I think Bush’s book sells better than Clintons. I think a whole lot of people tuned in to see what the hell Bush did that made the media hate him so bad.

This is not to say that Bush was beloved by many in the country but I’m going out on a limb and state I believe that few really “hated” the man. What did he ever do to deserve all this hate?

By some he might have been an ineffective President, maybe they didn’t like his policies, there’s lots of reasons a populace of various sorts would look unkindly on a President. But hate? This pundit is so off the mark, thinking because he and his buds so hated Bush for no reason except it was cool to do so that all of us boobs out here in la-la must too have hated Bush for the coolness of the emotion.

And since we’re speculating here, I’m thinking that Clinton’s thousand page tome is boring as all get out, all about me, me, me. Just a hunch.
