Shale gas boom on ( IEA says 250 year supply possible Globally)

IEA: Natural Gas Can Supply World For 250 Years

Thursday, 20 January 2011 09:51 United Press International

Supplies of natural gas could last more than 250 years if Asian and European economies follow the U.S. unconventional reserves, the IEA said.

The abundance of shale gas and other forms of so-called unconventional gas discovered in the United States prompted a global rush to explore for the new resource.

The International Energy Agency said Australia is taking the lead in the push toward unconventional gas, though China, India and Indonesia are close behind. European companies are taking preliminary steps to unlock unconventional gas as are other regions.

“Production of ‘unconventional’ gas in the U.S. has rocketed in the past few years, going beyond even the most optimistic forecasts,” said Anne-Sophie Corbeau, a gas analyst at the IEA. “It is no wonder that its success has sparked such international interest.”

Shale gas production in the United States is booming and the IEA estimates that unconventional gas makes up around 12 percent of the global supply.

Global supplies of natural gas could last for another 130 years at current consumption rates. That time frame could double with unconventional gas, the IEA said.

“Despite the many uncertainties associated with production, countries are still prepared to take risks and invest time and money in exploration and production, because of the potential long-term benefits,” Corbeau said.

What do you mean instead of going to individual Americans?

It would take a lot more than increased distribution systems to replace imported oil with natural gas. They primarily serve different markets with oil going to transportation and natgas serving stationary services.

In Alaska they get the revenue sharing checks, I’d rather see it go to payoff the 200 Trillion Plus that is the National debt on the books and the other 3 sets of books they have in violation of GAAP and FASB Stds...

This will be a great spur to the Left and the Greens to shut down the production of natural gas.

Already underway using the "anti-fracking" meme to hinder exploration and well completion.

Are you seriously proposing to take my mineral rights, my private property, to pay for the government welfare programs?

Why not just seize all bank accounts and stock holdings as well as a real estate?

Not your mineral rights, share of profits they generate like they do in Alaska to pay off the 200 Trillion. Note it is not for old debt, not for new.... Good or bad I put it out thier for feedback, if it stinks that is cool too, you and all FR-ers are a great sounding board! Thanks in advance Thackney!

Shares of profits?

That’s my retirement. Can we take away your retirement funds?

The difference in Alaska is they were never private property for anyone except the native tribes. All others are held by the federal or state government from the beginning.

Already underway using the "anti-fracking" meme to hinder exploration and well completion.

I am in the heart of the Marcellus Shale gas drilling. We have been fighting the anti-fracing forces with logic, reason and facts, not hysterical, emotional arguments.

Pennsylvania has been fairly good at fighting off the liberals and drilling is going on everywhere, resulting in a big boost to many local economies.

New York, however, has given in to the liberals and banned drilling. Propery owners with potential gas leases are outraged, however, the liberals will not allow drilling unless the payoffs are big enough.

That is not the point, they spent your "retirement" and everyone else's to the tune of overspending to $400,000 per person if you add up all the off book debt i.e the 200 Trillion. How do we pay off all this debt we are carrying or do they do a "right off" or a one time forgiveness of debt in almost a biblical sense. I am not trying to bust your chops, I just see this differently. If we start to pay off this debt I can see us telling the Chinese to go pound sand, as they may demand the oil ( or any fuel ) in lue of payment of our debt, just my two cents.

You see it different because it is not your private property you suggest taking. But it is private property.

Why is taking my privately owned mineral rights different than taking your bank account or mutual funds? Please answer this basic question.

Then tell me what we can replicate of the Alaskan model in the lower 48 to pay off the debt. Thack, I am done we are different wave-lengths, Either I am missing a point of the Alaskan model or you are, or we are both missing something about the Alaskan Consitution.

I lived in Alaska and worked in its oil industry for 4 years.

What you are missing is that in Alaska, oil/gas mineral rights were never owned by the private property owners and that only 1% of Alaska is individually owned.

Do you want the state and Federal government to take away the private property in the other states so they can take the income from it?

This might help.

Is this what you want to convert your state too? Mostly owned by the governments?
