SHUT IT DOWN NOW!

Tactics.

In the game of golf, there is something called laying up. It refers to a tactical decision by the golfer not to take a risky shot that would, if successful, get him closer to the hole. Instead, he chooses to hit a shorter shot, away from the hazard in the hope of avoiding a costly mistake. Choosing to lose the battle in hopes of winning the war.

For those of you who enjoy golf, you know that laying up is sometimes the right thing to do, the prudent thing to do. It is a sign of maturity and earned wisdom.

And sometimes it simply means that you are a complete wimp.

Like golfers facing a water hazard while playing into a headwind, Republicans fear a government shutdown. For the last month, Congressional Republicans have been laying up.

Memory is a funny thing. Republicans remember it like yesterday. The voting public blamed Republicans for shutting down the government in 1995, and they live in fear of history repeating itself. It’s an odd thing that they can remember why the public rejected them in 1995, but they cannot seem to remember why they were sent to Washington just four months ago.

But things are different now. I am different now.

I, a pro-life conservative Catholic, and others like me helped send them to Washington for three reasons. To de-fund Planned Parenthood, to get government spending under control, and to cut Obamacare off at the knees by de-funding it for the next two years until possible repeal. By continually laying up, the Republicans are putting themselves in a position to deliver none of it...

I think the author would be happy if the gov’t simply stopped funding Planned Parenthood. I am not with him entirely, but I admire his focus.

This is the only chance to stop ObamaCare right away.

Incoherent ramblings. Four paragraphs into it and I still couldn’t tell what the Hell the rant was about, so I stopped reading.

Perhaps if he had written it in Cobol you would have had better luck. It was perfectly clear to me but I am not a code toad.

He said that moving the ball down the field in short planned gains is sometimes good, although he used a golf metaphor instead, but that sooner or later you have to go for the score. He said that the Republicans had been wimps, never daring to go for it all or even for a big gain.

He said the reason for that is they remembered what was considered a fumble back in 1995 when they refused to pass some funding legislation when they controlled the House (for the first time in forty years) and there was a government shutdown. The media heaped all the blame on the Republicans although the Democrats and Clinton were just as much to blame. That served its purpose of intimidating the Republicans and it has lasted even until now.

Incidentally, it was the media demonizing Bush for eight years and giving Obama a free ride which gave us what we have now.

The author said that the present Republicans should go for the gusto and demand $300 bil or more in cuts, threaten to defund the dept of education and planned parenthood. He said they could then bargain down if necessary but at least they would get something out of it. He said when it came down to the nitty gritty they could at least defund planned Parenthood if nothing else.

Keep in mind this is a Catholic publication we are citing.

Does that help any at all? If not, I am sorry but I tried.
