It may be time to re-think the significance of the mentioning of the birth certificate in Dreams. As we know Ayers wrote that garbage and a lot of it is fiction. Why should we assume that the bit about the birth certificate is true? Maybe at the time, before the whole birther movement was ‘born’, Ayers thought it was a good idea to sort of legitimize him by mentioning official paperwork in the book. Maybe it was an invention - “creative license” ie. an outright lie.

It's like the paradox of someone saying "I am a liar." Thereafter how can you know what he's saying is the truth?

Yeah, it would be kind of cool if every copy of Dreams came with a free pair of something like 3-D glasses, so we could put them on and read the book and be able to pick out the fact from the fiction. Trouble is, we don't know where the fact ends and the fiction begins in that story. How much is true? Five percent? Fifty percent? Three percent?

I agree, sifting fact from fiction is what it’s all about...but that paragraph in ‘Dreams’ includes two items; the newspaper article which has been found, in which is shown that the kenyan was interviewed in June 1962, where he is quoted as saying he had not been back to Kenya for seven years ( Ayres slipped up, he should have left that out)...

So I am inclined to believe that he might also have found a birth certificate at the same time...
