Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory..how the WH is totally blowing the Bin Laden event

I turned FOX on at 2PM..caught the WH press briefing, and then the first few minutes of Shep Smith's program. The presser was a disaster. Unmitigated. Here's a fearless predicition..within one or two more news cycles, we will hear that the SEALS killed an unarmed Bin Laden who was trying to surrender. Several journalists tiptoed around the question, and Shep actually "wondered" aloud how an "old man" could have resisted SEALS. And as I type, he actually asked if this operation was "illegal."

I don’t necessarily have a problem with not dropping a bomb. A bomb isn’t 100% and you’d never know for sure. There’s something to be said for IDing the guy with your own eyes and having no doubt. And after 10 years if the idea of watching the raid on video and actually seeing the moment when we found him and got him...well, I can’t say I blame him.

Operationally it was a total success.

They had to get out of there fast. With everybody just a pile of blubber and bones and unrecognizable, how would they know which bones and blubber to pick up for DNA testing.

They couldn’t hang around to process this evidence on site.

I'm sure the kids preferred that to the JDAM bouquet that almost got tossed through their window. Obliterating the compound from the air was a real possibility.

also, they were able to take out a goldmine of disk drives, documents, computers, etc... that will be of tremendous value going forward. If they just bombed the compund they wouldn’t have gotten any of that stuff.

Okay, looks like Drudge has removed the tweet that stated the WH said it did NOT give the kill order, the Seals did it on their own “on the ground”...I’m going to see if I can find the original story...

The way the WH is spinning today, those honorable SEALs will be arrested for NOT following the CIC’s orders to ‘take OBL peacefully, and if that was unfeasible, to cancel the mission’—O&Co. is turning on the SEALs faster than that crowd in Jerusalem turned against Jesus between Palm Sunday and the Good Friday!!! :-O

Yesterday on one thread someone argued that the latest Wikileaks release would have allowed Osama to figure out that we knew where he was, or at least that we knew about his courier, so they had to act right away. That sounds plausible enough--otherwise Obama would have thought about it for a few months, like he did with the half-surge in Afghanistan.

The liberals are saying that Republicans might as well concede the 2012 presidential election now, because Obama is unbeatable after the killing of Osama. But meanwhile the Seals are guilty of killing a person with a disability and without reading him his Miranda rights.

Maybe they need to revise the national seal and add the Latin translation of "No good deed goes unpunished."
