Should we have brought Bin Laden out alive?

Apparently, the team going after OBL was instructed not to bring him out alive. I have already read several posts saying that it is a good thing OBL was killed, rather than captured alive. Donald Rumsfeld just said the same thing on the Greta Van Susteren show. The usual rationale is that it avoids the chaos and confusion that would necessarily have been the outcome of a trial.

I’m not so sure.

First, and possibly most important, consider the intelligence we might have gotten from him. The amount of crucial information he had must have been staggering. He was obviously not hiding away in a cave, as some of us suspected, so he was probably in close daily contact with whatever is left of the Al Qaida network. It’s not clear how much he would have talked, particularly under Obama’s interrogation rules, but interrogators have said in the past that sometimes arrogant prisoners will talk about anything, just to demonstrate how important they are. And, skilled interrogators have ways of getting information, even without waterboarding.

Also, don’t discount the symbolic benefit of having OBL in custody. OBL is now a martyr, even without a grave to visit. And he will be considered to have died a hero. If he had been captured, and pictured in chains, it would have been an enormous psychological blow to a society that puts great emphasis on symbolism.

Heck no. Dump him at sea — fine with me. Let the sharks have him. A quick prayer, a bag, bye bye OBL.

He should be brought out alive. The public should be told he is dead. He should be held a mile underground and turned over to a team of uninhibited interrogators. Once there could be no more information gleened from him...kill him with impunity.

Yes, I agree completely. It is nice to think that this is what is being done. Everything that comes from the Obama administration can be counted on to be a lie. Unfortunately, the same people who have financed Obama also financed Bin Laden. I think that there is a better chance that he is being given medical treatment, a new identity, new look and will be running around Saudi Arabia with his terrorist, Obama supporting pals. Heck, Obama will probably bow to him the next time he is in the Middle East.

Maybe he is alive. Perhaps they are just saying he is dead so he can be tortured like he so richly deserves. Then they dispose of the body as chunky treats for pigs to eat.

I’m sick of self defeating approaches.

Have no problem with killing Bin Laden, but it sounds like we could have captured him. I wish we did and kept it secret while we sweated him for information.

No! Holder would have him in NYC, lawyered up by now.

How many times has Obama been to NYC as POTUS? Has he ever been to the WTC site before tomorrow?

This is something I’ve been thinking about since yesterday. I remember we brought out Saddam Hussein alive. I wonder what the reaction would have been had he been shot on sight?

Regarding OBL, I’ve now heard four different versions of what transpired, that he was armed and putting up a fight, that he wasn’t armed, that the mission called for his capture and that the mission called for his death.

As Rush spoke of earlier, it’s interesting that there are very few Liberals, who normally would be appalled at our actions, complaining.

I'm sorry we had to stoop to the level of Islamic Terrorists to take him out. I'm happy that none of our outstanding Seals and CIA were casualties of the mission. I wish they'd take better care of those helicopters, they are really expensive, but I'm even happier for all those who have served in the military who have spent the past decade waiting for this. They are my shining stars. If it brings any comfort to the families of his victims, I'm glad for that. If it manages to bring closure, I'll be surprised, yet grateful. Finally, my major reaction is relief. I don't feel any safer, but I'm just happy President Obama had the courage to pull the trigger on this.

Yes, he (and we) are hypocrites, but the drug saturated thug of the Middle East was already dead in all but assuming room temperature. He was living in a dump in isolation, had no freedom and apparently no recreational activities except copulating. Even that can get old after a while. Nope, all in all, if it gives hope to the kids who were so traumatized by the attack of 9/11, then I say it's a good thing to know we've still got what it takes to get what needs to be done and when the dust settles, we'll have a glass tea and talk. Until then, until the last drug saturated thug is gone...gone...gone.

I’d like to believe the official narrative here, but at this point I am incapable of doing it. Everything that comes out of Obama’s mouth is a lie. The only thing we know about this situation is what the administration wants us to know, that means we don’t know anything.

The problem for Obama here is that it is not only his adoring American press that will be covering this. Some muckraker somewhere might really make an effort to get to the bottom of it.

If it really was Osama that they took out he was nothing but an evil sick old man at this point. Shooting him in the head would be doing him a favor. Now he can be a martyr to his followers. Osama was no more of a manly man than Obama. Did you ever see the video of him trying to shoot an AK? It was pathetic.

The story here keeps changing because they are still trying to figure out what will fly the best. This was nothing more than the start of Obama’s campaign and a build-up to call attention away from Trump and the book that Jerome Corsi has coming out next week. This is all political maneuvering... nothing more.

We got his computer - no need to keep him alive as far as intelligence goes.

Since our goal is to either discourage or kill all terrorists, killing OBL is ultimately the right thing. Obviously, if the only chance to get him was by predator drone, we would have done so without wasting a second. By killing him we show the rest of the terrorists what their ultimate fate will be. Killing him will demoralize many of them. They don’t want to end up with a bullet smashing into their brainpan.
