as a bartender, i don’t give a rip what the “holiday” commemerates. if it means more people come into my bar and tip me, then i’ll put up the corona signs, the pinatas, the inflatable sombreros, wear the little blinkie buttons.. whatever.

There is nothing to celebrate.

This is a Beer Holiday invented by the beer distributors.

Budweiser even had a new slogan out: 5 Of Busch. (?) Don't know what that means, might have to ask The Race about it.

To Hell with the Middle East. Our troops belong on the border of Mexico. Either Mexico helps or we occupy and clean that miserable country.

It is a celebration promoted in the US by Tecate and Cuervo.

>>I’m not celebrating Cinco de Mayo today because there is nothing to honor in the memory of Mexico Independence.

That’s good. Cinco de Mayo is not Mexican Independence Day.

Dang it - I had mayo on my turkey sandwich at lunch today.

My bad.

They don’t celebrate Jar of Mayo where I live.

They celebrate Ginko Baloba or Rocky Balboa or something like that.

Yes but if Bush had said it, you would see it several times a day on EACH of the major drive-by media news outlets this time of year.

Cinco de Mayo is not a celebration for Mexican Independence. It commemorates the Battle of Puebla. Mexican independence is sometime in September, I think.
I am an ESL teacher in SoCal who has 100% Hispanic students and everyone is correct. Cinco de Mayo is an American celebration of sorts for dancing, margaritas and enchiladas.

(ALLEGRA, CAN YOU SING IN SPANISH?)

When I get back to my quarters for the evening, I shall try to select and perform the appropriate song about sinking mayonnaise for today.

'Round the time I get back to quarters each evening, there are three loudspeakers nearby where some guys all perform songs. I think it must be for Happy Hour or something.

They never harmonize, though.

It would be nice if they would develop a three-part harmony as they sing about Allah and stuff.

You could suggest they call their group The Holy Trinity... that would make them happy I'm sure.
