Who Won the Republican Debate
Elephant Watcher ^ | May 5, 2011

"So who won the debate? In a political debate, of course, there is no such thing as "winning the argument." Instead, candidates aim to achieve certain goals. In this case--even for Pawlenty--the goal was to attract media attention. The debates also present an opportunity for the candidates to prove their rhetorical ability. So who succeeded?

No candidate performed in an outstanding way. Two candidates, Santorum and Johnson, performed poorly. But Cain, Paul, and Pawlenty each achieved what they set out to do...."

Don’ forget. Ron Paul and Johnson both clearly said no to waterboarding any terrorist.

I can’t believe anyone here would support someone for president that won’t do everthing to protect us.

But Ron Paul won it. He electrified the audience.

Paulbots are noisy and small in number. Just look at the commotion he caused at CPAC for no reason. He has zero shot at anything other than being the but of political jokes for another season.

Someone who's younger and can attract younger people.

Aren't you tired of the GOP running geriatric, tired candidates? <<<

Yup...You're right!...If he's for a younger metro-sexual Santa Clause with out that gray beard and that tired red suit...I am too!!

Did you describe Ron Paul as dynamic? You must not be a woman. He positively cringes me because he is so phyically unattractive. I don’t mean that he is ugly but that he is so unmanly and almost mousy. He’s not even funny. Not many woman would vote for him.

Don’ confuse the loud applause with people actually liking what he says. Its all staged and phony.

Hmmm Looked pretty metro to me.

I liked what Santorum had to say re; marriage, American values and his practically calling Obama a Socialist.
I had never heard him before tonight.

I couldn’t care less about the persons skin color.

I care more about their politics.

Red; You’re a Kommie and count me out.

Oh stop. This is a pizza delivery guy! We have a “no experience” guy now. How is that workin out? If we had a pizza shortage problem, Cain would be the guy. Last I looked, Pizza Hut has my favorite Large Pizza for $10.

You and me both Palin and Cain seem like real people to me unlike the other candidates. Cain is even starting to replace Bachman on my short list now.

“(Answer: He's black, and the affirmative-action wing of conservatism are foolishly putting race ahead of experience). “

YES! Haven't the rest of you gotten over your white guilt yet? See where that got you last time.

Look, Obama has set back race relations 30 years. A Black presidential candidate has NO CHANCE for at least a generation. A Black Republican candidate will not get the GOP the Black vote.

The ONLY Black candidate I could support is Allen West. He would not win either.

Cain is a loser (literally)

Because that's why the majority of FReepers support him. Not me. I was impressed with his demeanor. I think he had gravitas. He spoke clearly and in a measured way, his voice had definition. I thought he spoke with conviction, if not always with specificity on issues, then on values. As opposed to our shallow, teenybopper president, whose every other sentence begins with 'I.' Decision still pending.

You are correct. Also, nobody can have a plan on wars in Iraq and Afghanistan without being privey to the classified information and the details..

Until you have the information, any plan is just an opinion..

If it’s so easy to run a national pizza chain, then why are there no “Faucetman Pizza” flyers in my mail?

So you are saying that candidates for gummint bureaucracies must have experience as gummint bureaucrats? Is that what the Founding Fathers intended?

Nice strawman.

I said nothing about running gov't bureaucracies.

Traditionally, the modern path to the WH has been someone who has executive or military experience, or at least served as a legislator.

Herman Cain has NO public service experience and therefore couldn't get elected dog catcher.
