He needs to be a Governor, or at least a Senator.
He didn't even win the GOP primary of a Senate race in GA.
John Cox ran in 2008 and no one supported him. He too was a businessman.
So why is everyone jumping all over Cain?
(Answer: He's black, and the affirmative-action wing of conservatism are foolishly putting race ahead of experience).
He is also too old and is not photogenic.
FReepers ought to be ashamed of themselves. Now's not the time to support these vanity candidates who view the Presidency as the equivalent of tackling Mt. Everest. These are serious times and they demand a serious, qualified leader who has experience and has withstood the onslaught of left-wing Obama thug tactics.
If Cain gets the nomination we're screwed.
Because he has fire in his belly. I think he's terrific.
Watch this if you have never seen a Cain speech. And get back to us.
Your nuts. He has by far the best campaign skills of anyone running, he’s run multiple large companies. He is very compelling, and he’s right on pretty much every issue. I take him very seriously.
There is nothing that holding political office does to qualify someone to make policy decisions and manage, which is what presidents do. There are many people in the private sector who know far more about just about any policy issue that the typical “experienced” candidate. The only thing political office does for anyone is continually test his fund-raising abilities.
Does anyone think that John Kerry or Joe Biden have a better grasp of issues than Cain? And then there are issues of character and intellectual curiousity, which are not the long suits of the overwhelming majority of politicians.

You pretty much speak the truth.
I do think Cain probably did best in the debate, but lets be serious - he isn't going to be President of the United States. No public service experience, lost his only run at office in the primaries, not particularly photogenic, and a stage 4 cancer survivor isn't a great resume builder when we are talking about the Presidency. In a general election, that issue alone will hurt him as people will probably worry he could relapse and die.
I don't think the black thing matters as much as you suggest. I also think encouraging minorities to run for office as Republicans is a good idea. Still, some of what you are saying might be true.
Palin would have simply annihilated this group of 2nd and 3rd tier candidates. I really hope she gets in the race because we seriously need her (imo).
What if the final ‘12 GOP Presidential ticket is, either, Sarah Palin/Herman Cain, or, Herman Cain/Sarah Palin? Will the U.S. be screwed, with either ticket?
“Herman Cain has no public service experience.
He needs to be a Governor, or at least a Senator. “
I said the same thing 2 weeks ago. But you know, tonight, he was on fire and on target.
Against Obama, he’d make a credible candidate.
He has the REAL executive experience many lack.
“John Cox ran in 2008 and no one supported him.”
So what? We will see if Cain can get traction, but I will say this - if Trump can get 20% support in a GOP primary - why not Cain?
This is a reply to comment #22
“He needs to be a Governor, or at least a Senator. “
“He’s black...He is also too old and is not photogenic.”
Most of Obama’s bad ideas came from his white mother’s side of the family. Daddy wasn’t around enough to make a difference.
Eisenhower was neither a governor, senator, congressman nor mayor.
Ronald Reagan was 69 when he first entered the White House.
Abe Lincoln was homely & gangling.
Washington had ill fitting false teeth.
“White, young and photogenic”? Give me a break! Nice qualities if everything else is there, but WAY down the list of essentials.
Cain has a proven track record of putting businesses back on their feet and putting people to work.
The last thing the country needs is a kid who said, “I want to be president some day, so I’m going to law school then running for Congress.
No more Politicians!
No more lawyers!
This is so sad but it is true. I'll tell ya that todays election is photogenic/intensity persona. Who has both of these qualities? Trump & Palin. These are the only 2 that can win. Maybe Christie would be in the mix.
He needs to be President.
YES! Haven't the rest of you gotten over your white guilt yet? See where that got you last time.
Look, Obama has set back race relations 30 years. A Black presidential candidate has NO CHANCE for at least a generation. A Black Republican candidate will not get the GOP the Black vote.
The ONLY Black candidate I could support is Allen West. He would not win either.
Cain is a loser (literally)
Agree! He’s also a former member of the Federal Reserve Board and said in a speech that he didn’t see a need for an audit of the Fed. That’s all it took for me to mark him off my list!
Truthfully, he’s got no more experience than the Community Organizer that’s currently in the WH.
We've been "public serviced" by enough presidents. We need a business type at the helm for a while now.
You’re to right about Cain. He’s a fine man would should have started as a congressman, a senator, or with a statewide office. He is also older than Mitt Romney and would be in his 70’s in his first term in office.
It’s unfortunate how many Freepers get the “see, they’d know we aren’t racist now” thrill about him as a candidate without reflecting on how much just that sentiment on the other side had to do with Obama’s victory.
But I thought participants in this debate were supposed to be showing up with at least 1% support in national polls. Do Johnson and Santorum have that?
I don't need the experience of a Governor Jimmy Carter or Governor Bill Clinton to be my next President.
I am fed up with “having” to elect someone with “political” experience.
As Herman Cain put it - Look at the mess we have in Washington today because of people in charge with “political” experience.
