I want to warn you both about some “issues” others will be saying about Cain.

FED:
Cain became a member of the board of directors to the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in 1992 and served as its chairman from January 1995 to August 1996. In January (I think) he said the audit of the FED wasn’t necessary. He later clarified that if Congress wanted it, he wouldn’t have a problem with it. It is the people making the policy that need scrutiny.

TARP:
In 2008, when people were first proposing a loan to the banks to give them liquidity, he agreed with the idea. He made some comments to the effect of “it would be a good thing for the banks and for the Gov.”

Once the details of how TARP was going to be implemented came out, he was very vocal in decrying that the Gov. should not be in the business of picking winners and losers.

People will parade his quote in 2008 as being a big supporter of TARP. They will not then play all the clips of him objecting to the way it was implemented.

On a personal note:
I’ve listened to him on the Boortz show for years, and the last 2 years I was able to listen to Cain’s own radio show here in Atlanta.

He has an amazing ability to phrase complex issues in a way that normal people can understand. I have always been impressed by his radio show and wished it was on at a better time so I could listen longer.

I know he has no elected office experience, but I believe his life experience is what our country needs now.

If you haven’t read the ABOUT page on his site, this is one of the parts that really shows his character to me:

“I enjoyed a successful career at the Coca-Cola Company and later moved to the Pillsbury Company. Within a short period, I rose to the position of Vice President. When I got there, I thought I had already achieved my American Dream on the 31st floor of the new Pillsbury Corporate Headquarters with a corner office. But I quickly realized I wanted something more.

I resigned my position and started on another path- the restaurant industry. I knew that in order to be successful, I had to start from “the ground up.” This meant broiling hamburgers at Pillsbury’s Burger King division. After nine months of a grueling restaurant experience, I was assigned to lead a low performing region of 450 Burger King restaurants. Within three years, we became the best-performing region in the U.S.”

How many Vice-Presidents would choose to wash dishes and cook hamburgers?

Corrections on your issues based on how some are spinning it. First on the Fed- the regional federal reserve banks do not have the same function as the US Federal Reserve. They have no say in monetary policy or printing money. Regional FED banks help transfer money between banks, clear checks, ensure banks keep their books clean, etc. A bunch of Paultards have been trying to spin that to make it sound like he was in bed with the devil- really just their willing ignorance of the facts. You got the audit issue right. He did support the Audit if it was done independently and included where the real political power lays, the US Treasury Dept(something the audit callers ignore). He was opposed to self-defeating witch hunts some have been proposing. IE, he took an adult approach.

TARP. He was an outspoken critic of TARP. He supported one small piece of what became TARP before it went out. It was during a time when everyone was debating what to do. Again, taking an adult approach and working through what was happening instead of knee jerk reacting either to go all in with TARP or let it all collapse.
