I hear ya. It’s a travesty that we didn’t go big early and wrap this up in a few years.
I think victory is when we can be sure the Afghans can prevent the Taliban from returning to power on their own. The majority of Afghans don’t want a return of the Taliban.
Surrender of the Taliban would be nice but not achievable with our force levels. However, they’re not really a threat unless they are in charge of Afghanistan and host terrorist organizations again. There’s little reason to believe they wouldn’t given the chance.

Mod lecture series entry about blogs, blog posting and blog pimpin’.
Not that there's anything wrong with that...
It’s that forum called “Bloggers and Personal” and if you do, then please show us the courtesy of sharing your thoughts in their entirety.
Analysis by numbers. Straight of the Pentagon’s 1960’s playbook. By that tactic, the US won Vietnam, too.
But the problems are the same as in Vietnam -
Local people who don’t really give a damn which way the fighting goes, and don’t want to help. A double-dealing government that wants the foreigners to do all the hard work, and has an incentive for the war to drag on (= more foreign aid).
Not winning the “hearts and minds of the populace” is not a recipe for success.
Here's the letter I just sent: I'm writing to urge you to allow the Generals in Afghanistan to determine the pace of troop withdrawals.Well, no argument from me.
zer0’s generals or America’s generals?
Understandable how you would think it should be posted in activism, being new here and all.Sure Im a blogger. As far as I can tell, thats not forbidden here. I really was trying to generate more letter writing.
Do I get to say IBTZ on my own post?
In fact, if a well established poster had posted the same message with some clarification of the purpose, it could very well have been posted in activism as vanity post imo.
That being said, you did most things right as far as a blogger posting in this bloggers forum.
You posted the whole writing, but still got slammed for not posting the whole thing.
Called a blog pimp when you did not even post with a live link. Which btw you can do (and should do, you have other good writings at the link) if you wish.
You have communicated on your post. Many bloggers post thread after thread and never respond to the replies they get.
That is a sign of really not caring for this forum, but only to get their blogs posted here.
FR is about an exchange of ideas, opinions and thoughts and thanks for being part of the process.
There are a few posters here who are all gung ho about disrupting blog postings (FreeperBeaters,) that they don't seem to care if they chase off good posters or not.
They have been so rude in the past that some bloggers just gave up.
FR's loss in some cases.
Did you notice once early in the thread someone posted negative about your post, that immediately a couple others jumped in?
Follow the leader thingie I guess.
(And some of them don't have good firewall/anti-virus protection and think everything loading up on a page is gonna zap their computer. lol)
Kinda like hyenas after scraps a lion left laying around.
A bunch of posters here pride themselves on the IBTZ, but are wrong more often than not.
Keep up the good work and thanks for having a sense of humor! IBTZ lol
We’ve all got our little peccadillos! ;-)
On the side of the road belly up clutching a Lone Star?
We call that marinated roadkill on the half-shell.
Thanks much for the info, hints, and encouragement. It’s very helpful.
I noticed that some folks added some keywords that I did not. Newbie is annoying but at least it’s true (being new and all). However, concerntroll certainly doesn’t apply to a post made in good faith. Still not a big deal. However, the “anyone can add keywords” feature has me concerned that someone might add some that would reflect on me and be truly inappropriate.
I did some searching on FR’s search and google and it seems the only recourse if that happens is to ‘contact the moderators’ but I’m not sure of the “right” way to do that. Just click abuse on my post and explain it?
“Keep up the good work and thanks for having a sense of humor!” Thanks, I don’t mind rough and tumble so I think I’m going to fit in here as soon as I get the lay of the land.
