I had a job once enrolling Welfare people in a Free Dental Plan for the poor at the office they went to get their checks. Back then they would go on a certain day in person. Well the Welfare Queens would pull up in Luxury cars, go in get the check and then there was a mobil van selling Lobster and Steak across the street where they would head right over there and cash their check for Lobster and Steak and head back to their free housing in their Caddy.

When I was young the poor were skinny and would work to get out of their poverty. Now the greatest health problem among our poor is obesity and they think any kind of work is demeaning. They constantly complain about how their overweight children go to bed hungry and we/re told to give them more of everything.

One of my jobs when I worked as a drug/alcohol counselor was to teach the clients how to eat properly and how to shop .

To that end once a week I would take a group of clients grocery shopping.. all of these folks were on welfare and food stamps ...

I shopped for my family of 9 with the cash I earned ( quaint I know) so when I tried to give them shopping tips I found out they only ate “name brands” and the best cuts of meat ...

I would suspect he knows somebody willing to give him cash in exchange for using his food stamp card.

I cannot remember that last time I had lobster...and I love lobster!

Note to self: get some lobster, you’re going to die someday.

It looks bad but before I jump to pass judgment I need more information. Is this a weekly thing or did they save up for a birthday or wedding anniversary? Just because your poor dose not mean you do not want to do something nice. When the wife and I first started out on pork and beans, we still saved up for a special treat once a year.

Food stamps aside...in this economy a pound of cereal and a pound of steak are not much different in price.

They’re not food stamps.

It is SNAP.

SUPPLEMENTAL Nutrition Assistance Program.

Lobster and Steak is SUPPLEMENTAL.

I know a guy (he had found me on the web years ago and given me work on parts of projects he couldn't handle himself).

He stopped doing the work he was doing, and became very lazy. Eventually, he wound up finding a lonely woman in Boston to move in with (he had been in L.A.). She is a school teacher (making tons), and he does nothing (except go for free medical stuff almost weekly).

Had a chat with him the other day, and he said he's collecting food stamps... and uses that to buy lobster and caviar.

I asked him if he felt guilty (he's a super-left liberal) for taking free healthcare and free food stamps when he lives with a woman making six figures.... "of course not" was his response.

I would suspect that you are right, except I see the EBT people in front of me at the grocery store buying the absolute best cust of meat when they aren't buying the expensive gourmet frozen entrees. Saw one BF (giant elaborately painted nails) pay for some stuff at the grocery store with the EBT card and then go out and get into a Mercedes two seater sports car.

I assume food stamp recipient only get a fixed amount and have to budget like those of us who buy our food with cash. If this person chose to blow over $100 worth of food stamps on lobster, I guess they plan to live exclusively on lobster for several days and then not eat for the rest of the month.

Fraud, waste and misuse of funds are an inevitable part of mammoth social welfare programs, or any mammoth government program.

Yes, but look at the “in store savings”! $6.00! Bet they couldn't save that much buying beans and rice.
Besides Surf and Turf make a balanced diet and cash has to be saved for the liquor section of the market.

Gotta go now, here at the soup kitchen they make us share the machine.
