Wonder if the OSU fans will invite Kirk Herbstreit to move back to Columbus?

Unfortunately, if you want to win football games, you have to draft blacks. Charlie Weis found out the hard way at Notre Dame that smart, decent white kids just can’t cut it.

Im not sure, but I wonder what police departments official policies are on businesses giving discounts/freebied to their officers ? Id always looked at it as a busniess bribing cops to hang around and scare off potential criminals. Given their generouns retirement packages, its not like cops are underpaid.
Sure...the restaurant management will comp the cops' meals for security reasons. They'll also do it because the cops may get an emergency call in the middle of their meal, and have to leave the restaurant immediately, before they have an opportunity to pay the check. IOW...there's a good chance the cops aren't going to be able to pay their check anyway, so the establishment figures they might as well comp them their meals.

I guess it depends on whether anyone that worked in the place got a “warning” for speeding when I would have gotten a ticket.
Its that kind of Quid Pro Quo that pisses me off.
They aren’t going to get to your store any faster after its been robbed than they would mine.

I suppose, but I don’t think the handful of cops who ate there would have necessarily recognized the owner.
Also there are a lot more cops that could have stopped him for speeding. I mean maybe 10-20 cops would eat there in a year. How many cops, sherriffs, CHP etc. are out there any given day? His odds off getting a ticket written off were pretty low.

A restaurant I worked at used to cut any uniformed cops bills in half.
I used to always give the police free drinks and much discounted meals. It was always nice for us and bad for the bad guys when a police car was in the parking lot.

I am assuming you didn’t expect some sort of ticket favors or something in return.
I don’t think my boss did, either.
I think he liked cops and appreciated their work. Having uniformed cops in the restaurant probably appreciates the feeling of security for diners; that’s a bonus. But we were in a gentrified area, not a crummy one.
I don’t support bribes of course but it kind of saddens me that it is assumed that if you do a favor for uniformed cops it’s because you want special treatment. Or if a cop accepts a kindness he’s been bribed.
It is similar, to me, how people pick up tabs for uniformed servicemen. I know, the servicemen can’t arrest you.

In the case of my restaurant I dont think it was considered payment. We werent in a bad neighborhood and didnt need extra police protection.
Neither were we. I just thought it a nice gesture to give the people who help protect us and get very little in return a break ok. I know that the anarchists who hate authority and want legalized drugs disagree, but I still would prefer a cop to a drug dealer if I need help.

Ruh-roh. ESPN is reporting a story breaking about cars being provided to Pryor.
THere is also a story brewing that a car dealer in Columbus sold over 50 cars to players and relatives via something called "The Buckeye Discount".
The plot thickens.........

Is there any difference between that and the discount Air Force cadets get on new cars when they graduate from the Air Force Academy? I have no problem with the cadets or the buckeyes discount. What is your problem?

There probably is if it’s happening while the players are still in school and it’s part of a payola system. If the dealership is getting signed merchandise from the players in return like the tatoo parlor was, that’s a massive rule violation.
The S.I. article that supposed to provide all the details of all this is to be released tonight. Guess got to wait till then to see what the full story is.

No doubt. I just thought the idea of “discounted tattoos” was amusing.
