A restaurant I worked at used to cut any uniformed cops’ bills in half.
I thought it was a nice gesture. Never thought it corrupt.

I’m not sure, but I wonder what police departments’ official policies are on businesses giving discounts/freebied to their officers ? I’d always looked at it as a busniess bribing cops to hang around and scare off potential criminals. Given their generouns retirement packages, it’s not like cops are underpaid.

You never get something for nothing.
I guess it depends on whether anyone that worked in the place got a “warning” for speeding when I would have gotten a ticket.
Its that kind of Quid Pro Quo that pisses me off.
They aren’t going to get to your store any faster after its been robbed than they would mine.
A place I stop for breakfast and lunch, part of a mid sized local chain, does the same with uniformed cops and EMS crews. It's not some fancy kind of place -- really just a half step up from fast food, and the most you could spend on lunch would be $10. Yes, they get a discount, but in return it seems they tip their servers pretty nicely and seem to be on a first name basis with most of them.
Years ago, a diner I would go to was next to a rail yard. Not only did the train crews get a discount, they had reserved booths where no one else could sit just to make sure they had time to eat during their breaks.
