A culture-enricher in Harlem got a bit annoyed with the behavior of another customer in line at his local supermarket. After being thrown out of the store, the irate enricher returned with his trusty razor to set matters straight. Note: This incident has a Mohammed Coefficient of 100%. According to The New York Post:

New York: Maniac Slash Attack in Supermarket Meat Aisle

A crazed man made a Pathmark meat aisle extra bloody this morning when he plunged a knife into an elderly shopper’s neck, allegedly after the perpetrator stepped on the victim’s foot, police and store employees said. Abdullah Mohammed, 51, of 125th Street, was at the Harlem supermarket yesterday morning when he started arguing loudly at the customer service desk with William Perry, 70, a former truck driver. Perry was at the desk buying Lotto tickets when Mohammed stepped on his foot, irking the older man, according to his older brother, Charles Perry.

,i>Mohammed, who was clad in a peach linen suit, was booted out of the store, but stormed back in minutes later and cornered Perry in the meat aisle, two employees said. He then allegedly whipped out a razor and slashed Perry across the neck....

Mohammed was arrested and charged with assault in the first degree. Perry was taken to Harlem Hospital and was likely to survive his injuries, police said...

I grew up on the edge of Harlem and many of my friends (both black and white) lived there, even in the projects.

Prior to the riots in the 60s, Harlem was just a mostly poor neighborhood that was majority black, but had a fair number of well-off and middle class blacks because of the housing discrimination practiced in New York City (yes, that’s right!) at that time. However, you had to be employed and married even to live in the projects, which were just subsidized housing, and while they were ugly, they were clean and decent.

Once the Great Society came along and people no longer had to be employed or married and in fact you got brownie points and money for being never employed and a “single mother,” combined with the politically correct black separatism/racism promoted by the New York Times, Leonard Bernstein and other liberals, Harlem went right straight down the drain.

Harlem elected Charlie Rangel to replace Adam Clayton Powell. I would say Harlem has been in the crapper for a long time.

And having Bill Clinton’s office there hasn’t helped. Not by a long shot.

It wasn’t just because my white Jewish mother was a good liberal (RIP), it simply was clean and safe to visit.

It was a nice place. A few years ago, I met a black woman my age who had grown up on 7th Ave in Harlem during the same years that I was a child. We were talking about how our mothers used to dress up, what people wore and did and how we thought our lives were going to be when we grew up...and our experiences and dreams were exactly the same!

I think it was the Great Society that slapped the lid down on Harlem.

Like all lower income neighborhoods, regardless of color, Harlem was the fiefdom of the Democrats. Which is one of the things that destroyed it.
