One idea is to join a inter-denominational bible study group. You will learn about the gospel, meet people and get recommendations on churches. Study up on what the different denominations believe. Start visiting a different church each week until you find a compatible church.
There is a Universal Church, but it includes more than Catholics. If one is not comfortable as a Catholic, he needn’t be. Protestants don’t have THAT much different from Catholics, and what about the Orthodox and the Coptics?
“The Eucharist” is at the very center of Catholicism. The difference is cosmic.
Romans 10:9-10 says, “Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, and you will be saved.”
Doing that with your mouth and believing that in your heart is when you become a Christian, and will be in heaven when you die. However, before you die and go to heaven, you have God in your heart via his Holy Spirit, and he will help you go through the process of becoming more like Jesus, and be with you through the ups and downs of life.
Start reading the New Testament, either Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John. Then read something like Philippians. Find a church that preaches from the Bible, and get in a small group of folks to do a Bible study.
Do you mean you want to become a Protestant? As you know, Catholics are Christians, too.
Some churches are not teaching the Word of God...
Keep your eyes open in your search.
- Okay I am already a Christian as far as believing in Jesus and that he is the son of God.
Faith in Christ is the only requirement.
Pray constantly, and the Holy Spirit will guide you in your walk with God. He will never leave you wanting.
Read 1st Corinthians 13 over and over to learn what the love of God is really like ... then practice that in your everyday life.
A church is just a building. It is those that attend who are the real church of Christ. God will lead you to where He wants you if you let Him.
Grace and peace to you always.
I recently became a Christian too. Congratulations!! However, going to a church you as much of a Christian as walking on a bike path makes you a Cannondale.
When you seek Me you will find Me; when you seek Me with all your heart. (Jer 29:13) ...
Judging from the fact that this individual joined the forum today, this is their first post, and after posting simply disappeared, I’d have to say this poster is a troll.
Wow.... you're probably right, and I fell for it. But, what a thing to troll about!!

He said that, with the Basics you where in the “Building”
but traveling in the hallways, connecting different “Rooms”
Getting in the Building was the important thing.
But even C.S. Lewis would say that the
deeper walk in Christ was in “One of the Rooms”
To be kind to fellow travelers one meets in the Hallway
and do not judge those who have chosen
different Rooms within to serve
Seek to be Kind One to Another
Tenderhearted, Forgiving One Another
Seek to Do Justly, Love Mercy, and Walk Humbly
Seek the Truth, for It Sets You Free
1) Pray for guidance.
2) Seek a local church.
3) Try khouse.org for cheap mp3 downloadable Bible studies. The guy who does them is a former techie/DOD/AF biggie, and will appeal to men especially.
Yes, get into a good Bible study. The best one that I know of is the inductive Bible study method, like Precept Ministries studies. See if there is one in your area, either at a church or someone’s home. You can also get on their website and order a study book to study on your own.
Another good Bible study group is Bible Study Fellowship. See if there is one in your area.
The main thing is to STUDY the Word of God and let His indwelling Spirit lead and guide you in His Truth.

Election time is coming soon. These articles are as predictable as the seasons.
Pray real hard and get out of Chicago.
(Newbie says 3 sentences and then vanishes into thin air.)
Check out any affiliations that a church has. I mistakenly joined an ELCA affilitated church and quit it as soon as I realized it. Here I thought any Christian Church was pro-life! Silly me!
If you look into the Lutheran Church, only go to a Missouri Synod one. That is what I was raised in and I go to one now with my grandmother. The pastor is wonderful and I think he’d fit right in on FR. He’s so informed on things, he might just be a FReeper! He is totally on the same page as I am.
As far as other churches, my brother found a wonderful bible teaching centered church a few years ago. It has no affliations, it is just called a Bible Church.
That would be fine with me too, as that is what the Missouri Synod Lutheran Church I go to does too.
That’s the most important thing, not the label on the church. It’s what they teach and do.
Best of luck to you and God Bless You Today!
