could it be long before Tom Hanks has a new movie out?

The signs and symbols point to Blockbuster.

Having friends from all over the world, unless this person has lived for a recently extended period of time in the US, he will invariably fall into idiomatic speech more comfortable for him, even in written form.

This smells like a bad spy movie.

I agree with you that he went over the edge of sanity. Also, his clear thinking eroded when he decided that killing innocents would help any movement against Marxism or Islamism. He lost the ability to see the final cause & effect of his actions.

Agreed. The pages that I have read of Berwick’s Manifesto reflect deep research and rational thought about a serious problem. The Unabomber was misguided, in both thought and action. Berwick’s methods are abominable, but his thoughts are as profound, if not as humorous, as those of Mark Steyn.

Very simply, I guess what I’me trying to say is that insanity can appear anywhere, even in intelligent, right-thinking people. It does us no good to deny it. Instead, we have to study and figure out the best way to prevent another such occurrence. He was right about the stifling of speech by the MSM. Perhaps that is where we need to direct our efforts. It is my feeling that the MSM is somewhat culpable because they do try to stifle speech. Perhaps this wouldn’t have happened if he felt his voice was being heard seriously, rather than ridiculed.

I've seen the video based on the Berwick manifesto and I have to agree with almost all of it. I'm starting to read the manifesto and so far, it is dead on. I just think something snapped in this guy, the Norwegian shooter, in order for him to do this. I would have to ask a whole load of questions. Is he under extreme financial pressure? Girlfriend problems? What is his job situation? I can go on and on. I'll also like a full medical examination, I keep thinking of the Austin shooter, Whiteman, back in 1966, they discovered in his autopsy that he had a brain tumor.

Kaczynski wrote like a madman. The crazy was all over every page.

Breivik doesn’t. He’s eloquent and clear-headed. Even the sections where he’s plotting attacks read like a really well-written walk-through for a Fallout video game or something. It’s surreal.

This is a really uncomfortable reading experience.

Yeah, it is like a self-fulfilling prophesy where if one keeps getting kicked and put down, ridiculed, beaten, pushed aside, demonized, not heard, etc., plus if you add in other, perhaps unknown factors, it could push a few people over the edge and they do something terrible.

I keep thinking of the song from Black Sabbath, "Iron Man," where the character is shunned by society and/or society doesn't care so he turns bad and lashes out.

Has he lost his mind Can he see or is he blind Can he walk at all Or if he moves will he fall

Is he alive or dead Has he thoughts within his head We'll just pass him there Why should we even care

He was turned to steel In the great magnetic field When he traveled time For the future of mankind

Nobody wants him He just stares at the world Planning his vengeance That he will soon unfurl

Now the time is here For Iron Man to spread fear Vengeance from the grave Kills the people he once saved

Nobody wants him They just turn their heads Nobody helps him Now he has his revenge

Heavy boots of lead Fills his victims full of dread Running as fast as they can Iron Man lives again!

The first part of the manifesto is philosophy. The second part is a training manual for all-out — and I mean all-out — war against the enemy, which he sees as Cultural Marxism (including multiculturalism) and Islam. He invokes a principle of proportionality. He counts 45,000 who have been killed by Islam and political correctness in Europe, and 1 million injured. He thinks perhaps his army shouldn’t inflict much more damage than that. He has second thoughts, however, when he also tabulates the millions killed by abortion.

This manifesto really is a unilateral declaration of independence for Europeans, combined with a massively violent recipe for making it real. Scary stuff.

I haven’t gotten far into the reading of it yet, so I appreciate your input. Unfortunately, TWC cut my Internet and phone last night, so I’m behind on my reading.

We should not extrapolate European problems onto ourselves. Most of our ancestors left Europe. And they left their European problems in Europe. This incident to me was a political attack and represents an escalation of civil war within the European continent. There is a reason the Euro is failing. Perhaps another great European purge has begun or is looking for justification.

The thing is that much of the writing in the manifesto is spot on in its analysis of Islam, the threat posed to Western culture and democratic systems of government by multiculturalism and by Marxism and their sympathizers. There is little evidence in the first 800 or so pages that this is guy who would become so radicalized he would shoot up and blow up innocent people.

He strongly defends and argues in favor of the constitutional rights we enjoy in the United States. He rejects Nazism and other “hateful” ideologies. He shows understandable alarm at the loss of freedoms in the name of tolerance. None of these would be foreign to conservative philosophy. You can tell he researched his subject very well and the argument he presents in favor of protecting Western culture is one I would not fault.

However later in the manifesto he starts getting more heavily into a ultra nationalist argument with comparisons to Custer and Sitting Bull (he sees himself as a Sitting Bull against the Custer of Islam) and you can see a growing acceptance of armed resistance and action to reach his goals. When he starts his Templar Knights I think it is a safe bet to say he went off the rails big time.

The point being he was right about many things but for whatever reason he failed to grasp that the crimes he committed were the complete antithesis of the philosophy he claimed to believe.

One of the ideals Western culture rests on is the ideal of being a system of laws not of men. His crimes went against that 100%.

Many Europeans do learn English very early in the course of their education. My father spoke both German and English and you would never think that he spoke mostly German at home growing up had you read his writings.
