Americans are so pessimistic about the economy now ... . And the level of public pessimism is actually higher than the deep 1981-82 recession overall," due to grim personal outlooks on a number of issues like jobs, retirement and health care, says Karlyn Bowman, a senior fellow at AEI who co-authored the report. "Their negative sentiments are affecting the way they feel about their family's future, and interestingly, the way they feel about their state governments. Usually negative attitudes about the national government don't seep into attitudes about the state government, but this time it is really different. This negative, gloomy mood is pervasive.

‘They’ll keep on insisting that we’re in a recovery right up thru Nov 2012. Then watch all hell break loose.’

The exact reason why every Republican operative, be they a candidate, spokesperson, or pundit MUST constantly use the phrase ‘Obama Depression’. Once it is used over and over, it becomes reality. Much like ‘Bush lied about WMD’.

The best part is that it IS reality! There are more than 20 million Americans out of work. Real unemployment is at 18% or higher. Housing is in the toilet with more loss of equity than during the last Democrat Depression. Also jobs are being shed at a rate of close to 2 million a month with new Unemployment claims above 400K for the last six months.

The economy is a disaster and all the Republicans have to do is make the Democrats own what they wrought. We are witnessing a financial reckoning not scene in decades and if played properly, with bravery, we will landslide Obama and the Democrats.

Bright and early tomorrow morning we head out from our home in Seattle to our farm/home in Kentucky. Hope we make it in time.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sun shine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall soft upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

>>IOW more Americans are finally coming out of denial...<<

This is something I noticed. I was right there with Peter Schiff back in 2006 about the housing meltdown, and I didn’t find out about his position until almost a year later.

Meanwhile, it is now what pretty much everyone is talking about, and I’ve watched it get to that point over the last several years. The increase is exponential. The thing is, since 2006 I’ve been warning that once this thing hits critical mass it could get very bad, VERY quick. I’m actually concerned that it could be triggered as we drive to KY and find we cannot get fuel to get all the way there. It’s a small concern, but real.

Thanks all. All “optimism” must be grounded in a faith in American exceptionalism. This is what is missing. Exceptionalism does NOT mean “my country’s better than yours,” although it can. It means that by origin and structure, the USA has elements that NO OTHER nation on earth has: free markets, Christian religious faith (mostly protestant), property rights, and common law. Many countries (Japan, Taiwan) have #1 and 4; some (England, Germany) have 1, 2, and 3, but NONE have all four except us. So when that freakin’ idiot Obama says the Greeks believe in “Greek exceptionalism,” it shows what a total imbecile he really is and how he does not understand who NO other country is “exceptional” like we are.
