I agree that all conservatives should do what they can to stop moderates and liberals, regardless of their party affiliation. I think that the acronym, RINO, has been so overused and misused that it has lost nearly all of its impact and meaning.

There's a strong consensus among conservatives, as a whole -- not just on FR, that John McCain is a RINO, and that's been the case ever since CFR. Prior to CFR he was generally viewed as conservative. I think that the 2000 GOP primary really stuck in his craw, and he wanted to stick it to GWB and the GOP. And he did every chance he got.

There's a consensus that Senators Brown, Collins, and Snowe are moderate/liberal or RINO.
As of now, I see nothing close to a consensus among conservatives, as whole, that Rick Perry is moderate/liberal or a RINO. Perhaps here on FR he is viewed as moderate/liberal or a RINO by a majority of FReepers. I don't know. I personally don't view him as such.

That could change over the next 15 months, but I doubt it.
I know that you are very passionate about it, and I respect your right to voice your opinion as loudly as you can.

Hello again Quick.

I think that the acronym, RINO, has been so overused and misused that it has lost nearly all of its impact and meaning.

I believe you really think that because I believe you are an honest person. But I also believe that the use of the word 'RINO' in conjunction with Rick Perry cannot be overused. Perry is the epitome of a RINO and I have posted the proof of that assertion countless times on these pages.

McCain and the CFR? How about Rick Perry and the CFR?

Let me ask you this... do you consider being pro-ILLEGAL alien, pro-amnesty and pro-Dream Act conservative principles? I know i don't. Perry is all three.

I don't expect to change anyone's mind regarding Perry; you either view his liberal leanings for what they are or you make excuses because you think "he's the only one who can beat Obama'. Either way, his record will be hard to defend and it will not withstand the scrutiny it is sure to get. I really believe this because I don't believe conservatives in America will be as willing to nominate another RINO; didn't we learn our lesson w/ McCain?

Well it was reported that Obama insiders are hoping that the Republicans nominate Rick Perry as they feel they can easily beat him. The only person who will be able to beat Obama is Ron Paul as he has not flip-flopped & has been a conservative for much longer.

I appreciate that, and I believe that you're honest about your opinions. I'll answer your questions when I have more time to do it justice. That might be a few days, Irene is headed our way.

Good Sunday morning to you! :)
McCain and the CFR? How about Rick Perry and the CFR?
I was referring to CFR as in the McCain-Feingold campaign finance reform law. I don't recall that Rick Perry had anything to do with that.
Let me ask you this... do you consider being pro-ILLEGAL alien, pro-amnesty and pro-Dream Act conservative principles? I know i don't. Perry is all three.
First, I'm not convinced that Perry is all three of those things, or any of them. As my mother often says, it'll all come out in the wash. All critics and supporters are currently in the spin cycle; I'll do as Mom suggests, wait and see what comes out in the wash.

I think that we're decades past the point of where we could have applied the full measure of conservative principles to the illegal immigration problem. It makes me wince, but as the problem worsens I find it more and more difficult to disagree with what George Will wrote in his column 5 years ago:
Guard the Borders -- And Face Facts, Too
