One strike?!
See post 59 and tell me that is only one strike.
Rick Perry has more red flags than a May Day parade.
1. Michigan isn't going to vote Republican unless Mitt Romney is the nominee. Rick Perry is not going to carry Michigan.
2. No Republican is going to win Wisconsin.
3. Colorado's potentially Republican swing voters are more socially moderate suburbanites. They are going to be repulsed by Rick Perry's gaffe-a-matic, Bible-thumping persona. He's not likely to win Colorado. The story in Nevada will be similar although he has a better chance in Nevada.
4. The urban voters in Pennsylvania will continue to support Obama, and the suburbanites will be somewhat like those in Colorado. While huge swaths of Pennsylvania may be populated by those clinging to guns and religion, those swaths don't have most of the voters. Rick Perry is unlikely to win Pennsylvania.
5. New Hampshire might go for Rick Perry if he puts enough time in the state over the next few months, but he's not a natural fit for New Hampshire.
6. He would have a good shot at Iowa, but his snubbing the straw poll will make people there less enthusiastic about him. Political tourism is big business in Iowa, and he dumped on that Iowa industry.
If Rick Perry wins Virginia, North Carolina, and New Mexico, he could still win by this calculation, but I see no reason why he'd be that likely to win New Mexico. He might even have problems in Virginia or North Carolina for the reasons cited in the article.
The other big drawback of a Rick Perry candidacy is that he doesn't threaten Democrat strongholds. A better candidate could threaten Pennsylvania and maybe even Oregon. A better candidate would have a better chance in places like Colorado, Nevada, and New Hampshire. If we nominate Rick Perry, we are stuck defending states that used to be GOP strongholds but have now become swing states. If we find a better nominee, we not only threaten to take back those states but also force the Democrats to spend resources defending states that they've been winning for a long time.
Sure isn’t Senor Perry, that is for sure. The worst has to be laisse faire Ron Paul, and Romney grinds my gears, too. Johson, Santorum, Gingrich, also gag me with a spoon...RINOS and open borders freaks, come one come all.
Most EXCELLENT POST and analysis of what we face, Perry and all.
VERY dangerous for GOP and true conservatives, let alone our sovereignty and trying to get those damned borders under control and bringing about a domestic situation with the bennies so taht hordes self-deport. DON'T FALL FOR IT (Perry and his ilk). SHEESH. Handsome packaging but not the real deal, just like Mitt. Havent we been through this ENOUGH with the GOP nominee since (not including) Reagan's days???!!
When Perry spoke of ILLEGAL aliens he referred to America as, "THEIR COUNTRY".
And when again speaking of ILLEGAL aliens Perry called the foreign invaders, "TEXANS".
Conservatives don't advocate for ILLEGAL aliens.
Conservatives do not want open borders.
RINO Rick Perry is not a conservative.
No damn way!!!!!!
Thanks for the post!
.......>>>Perry’s record is solidly but far from perfectly conservative; honestly, there’s not that much difference between him and Pawlenty that’s not explained by the difference between Texas and Minnesota. He’s not the Platonic ideal Republican candidate. He’s not a brilliant policy innovator like Bobby Jindal, a budget wonk extraordinaire like Paul Ryan, or an exemplar of Tea Party purity like Michele Bachmann. He hasn’t faced down a hostile polity like Chris Christie or Scott Walker, or led a faction within the party like Jim DeMint or Pat Toomey. He lacks Marco Rubio’s spellbinding eloquence, Sarah Palin’s biting wit or Allen West’s martial ferocity. He hasn’t been a successful businessman like Romney or Herman Cain, or a decorated combat veteran like West or John McCain. He’s a career politician. And as a 61 year old white male Texas Baby Boomer who has been in office for a quarter century and who sometimes sounds like George W. Bush, he’s not in any way a “new face” for the party.
But the Republican Party right now has plenty of enthusiasm and plenty of ideas. What it has been looking for is a leader with credibility in governance, and that’s Perry. With over a decade in office in a huge, Republican-dominated state, Perry isn’t selling castles in the air, he’s selling an alternative vision of how government should operate, implemented and road-tested through good times and bad. From the new security demands of 9/11, to a decade of balancing budgets with ebbing and flowing tax revenues, to creating jobs through two recessions, to immigration from neighboring Mexico, to crises ranging from Hurricanes Rita and Ike to eruptions of Islamic extremism at Fort Hood to every variety of social ill and social-issue controversy, Perry has had to grapple with the full menu of practical challenges that come with governing responsibility. Many a buck has stopped at his desk. His answers may not always have been ideal, but the voters will be able to judge him, for good and ill, on a long and proven record. <<<<<<<........

“Big time RINO whose record is rife with advocating for ILLEGAL aliens and open borders. The two points below say it all.”
“When Perry spoke of ILLEGAL aliens he referred to America as, “THEIR COUNTRY”.
That is the United States of America Policy. You can defend America in our armed forces and by doing so become a US Citizen. When he said “their country” he was assuming they would be American Citizens since that is the policy of the US Federal Government.
Would you look someone in the eye who has fought for America in Iraq or Afghanistan, for the freedom of this country and say they do not deserve to become an American?

“And when again speaking of ILLEGAL aliens Perry called the foreign invaders, “TEXANS”.”
He was talking about kids. Kids in Texas who have grown up most of their lives in Texas, gone through school in Texas (the United States Supreme Court ruled that Texas must educate illegals) and graduated from high school with grades good enough to go to college. Yes, he called those Texas Kids Texans.
Keep in mind, that the root problem is that the Federal Government let this snow ball because they passed a law that required States to educate children regardless of their citizen status.
Keep in mind, that the Texas Legislature voted this in-state tuition bill into law in 2001.
The House (which at the time had a 78-72 Democratic majority) voted 142-1 in favor.
The Senate, with a 16-15 Republican majority, voted 27-3 to pass it.
Keep in mind, that these kids going to college have to not only have been in the Texas public school system for over 3 years consecutively but also have to file an affidavit to become a US Citizen. Then and only then are they allowed in-state tuition. That means they pay a discounted tuition.
And they do pay. There are no benefits attached.
In 2009, Texas Universities received over 27 million in tuition and fees from these same students who qualified.
In 2009, in the fall semester there were 8400 undocumented students enrolled in community college or technical school, 3700 were in public universities and 7 were enrolled in a health-related institute.
And your statement that they are foreign invaders is false.
They were kids of foreign invaders who your federal gov mandated they attend Texas Public Schools. In 2009, there were approx 12K that qualified for in-state “lowered” tuition rates for the fall semester.
THAT is who Gov Perry called Texans. Not their parents who broke the law.
“benefits of telemedicine to individuals living on the Mexican side of the border.”
That means communication. Communicating health care treatments to Mexican health providers.
The main reason for this is to prevent outbreaks, disease and contagious illnesses that could overflow and effect American Citizens.
I’ll be voting with someone who has the courage to tell me what they really think rather than some Eddie Haskell wannabe like St Rick who casts around trying to figure out what I want to hear.
Someone who doesn’t say they support the state’s rights to choose their own path (like gay marriage in NY) only to turn around and negate that by supporting a federal amendment.
I’m looking for candidates who don’t back down from earlier statements.
While I’d never support him, John Huntsman shows more courage than Rick Perry.
He feels wrong, and I've learned to trust my feelings on this stuff. We've been betrayed so many times after ignoring our best instincts.
Never again.
Perry can do no wrong in the mind of a Perry apologist. They will say or do anything to try and defend the indefensible. Fortunately, RINO Rick cannot escape his pro-ILLEGAL alien past regardless how many of his supporters close their eyes to his open borders past.
No Captain Gardasil.
No Slick Rick.
No Al Gores Campaign Manager.
No Rudy-Tooty Booster.
No no no to Ricky da RINO.
I second that emotion : )
” Sure isnt Senor Perry, that is for sure. The worst has to be laisse faire Ron Paul, and Romney grinds my gears, too. Johson, Santorum, Gingrich, also gag me with a spoon...RINOS and open borders freaks, come one come all.”
No kidding!!
” Perry can do no wrong in the mind of a Perry apologist. They will say or do anything to try and defend the indefensible. Fortunately, RINO Rick cannot escape his pro-ILLEGAL alien past regardless how many of his supporters close their eyes to his open borders past. “
NO MORE OPEN BORDERS RINOS !!
