Nothing. It's a legally meaningless sound bite the Perry fans have latched on to.

Fighting a deportation order could be considered "working towards citizenship".

It takes at least 5 years for those from Mexico to obtain US citizenship. So I would assume that is what “working towards citizenship” means. And that is for legal aliens, not sure how long it would take children brought in illegally by their parents.
