Steve Jobs Was Not God
Gawker ^ | 10/7/2011 | Hamilton Nolan

Steve Jobs is dead. A tech genius has passed on. Sad. Certainly a devastating loss to Steve Jobs' close friends and family members, as well as to Apple executives and shareholders. The rest of you? Calm down.

Among my Facebook friends yesterday, more than one wrote publicly that they were "crying" or "can't stop crying" or "teared up" due to Steve Jobs' death. Really now. You can't stop crying, now that you've heard that a middle-aged CEO has passed, after a long battle with cancer? If humans were always so empathetic, well, that would be understandable. But this type of one-upmanship of public displays of grief is both unbecoming and undeserved.

Real outpourings of public grief should be reserved for those people who lived life so heroically and selflessly that they stand as shining examples of love for all of humanity. People like, for example, the Rev. Fred Shuttlesworth, who—along with his family—was bombed, beaten, and stabbed during his years of principled activism in the US civil rights movement. Shuttlesworth died yesterday, the same day as Steve Jobs. He did not die a billionaire.

Death, of course, is not a competition. All deaths are sad for the living. Everyone deserves to be mourned, and well-known people will inevitably be mourned more loudly than others. But it is actually important to keep our grief in perspective. When we start mourning technocrats as idols, we cheapen the lives of those who have sacrificed more for their fellow man.

Steve Jobs was great at what he did. There's no need to further fellate the man's memory. He made good computers, he made good phones, he made good music players. He sold them well. He got obscenely rich. He enabled an entire generation of techie design fetishists to walk around with more attractive gadgets.

Hell, I knew in the early 80’s that computer, media, and telephone would merge.

Then wireless and cell technology came along.

Sorry. Jobs wasn’t such a genius. He just happened to be in the right place at the right time.

It was the technology that made him rich, not the other way around.

Steve Jobs was a high-end toymaker. Though what I do admire about him is that he was unwittingly a Randian archetype worshiped by people who despise Ayn Rand’s philosophies.

Look, I’m just saying it’s a possibility, I don’t really care if he had HIV or not, if he did it’s most likely not from homosexual activity so it doesn’t matter, whatever. I’m done discussing this.

After all, Edison stole from Tesla. I’ve not heard the same thing about Jobs.
Jobs stole from Wozniak.

Thank you for posting the commencement speech. Sounds like he learned quite a bit at age 50. Lots of basic truth there.

As it must come to all men, death came to Jobs. The same death that will visit each of us in our own time. I'll never be mourned by millions or billions because I've done nothing to deserve it. Few people do. I rejoice that there are such people and that I've been able to share the planet with them.

Very thoughtful post. I agree.

It is quackery to see that deep emotions cause disease? No, it is really conservative actually to understand that we are repsonsible, almost always, when our homes, our bodies, go awry. fhu.com has the remedy...be still and know.

Actually SXcheck was around then, their WEBSITE wasn’t launched until 2006. All the data on the “fake” documents seem to be real, what would be the point of faking elaborate documents saying he had HIV? I did read what I posted, you think apple would say steve jobs had HIV? Much better for his image and apple’s image to say “he died from pancreatic cancer” when it’s possible that he in fact died from complications from HIV and pancreatic cancer.

The DOCUMENT is fake... it is NOT a machine generated document. Get it through your thick skull it's a fake. YOU DID NOT READ WHAT YOU POSTED because what you posted claimed it was fake. Wonder all you want.

I spent many years creating graphic documents. It's a fake. Everything about it says it's a fake. Do you REALLY think that Steve Jobs, a billionaire, would go to a public lab to have his Sexually Transmitted Diseases tested... and then would SIGN a document that allows his medical records to be sent elsewhere? Not on your life.

He checked into the Kentucky transplant clinic under an assumed name for the Liver transplant... WHY would he put this information where it could be stolen? It's been debunked, even back when it first appeared in 2008... including a statement from SXCheck that it is NOT THEIR FORM... and you make your self look like an idiot beating a dead horse.

He has been treated for Pancreatic Cancer... His doctors, well respected men in their fields STATE categorically, he had pancreatic cancer... not something MIMICKING pancreatic cancer. Now GO AWAY!

Quit spreading despicable unsubstantiated rumors... about a dead man who cannot defend himself against scurrilous lies.

Deep emotions can cause disease? In some sense yes, but this:

Cancer is a disease of personality..deep buried anger that transforms some of the bodies cell into the demonic creatures minions which inhabit that body.

Is quackery.

Gates’ products never registered with their users on a personal level. That’s why there likely won’t be this sort of response when Gates dies.

sorry, there ias nothing quackery like in seeing and being healed from demonic forces which do indeed revel and live off of humans. People are unwitting dupes in the whole process through their rage and irritable selves which the bad spirit live off of...that negative energy.

fabian speaketh sooth; Evil spirits causeth cancer. So sayeth my barber when I visiteth for my bloodletting.

So, fabian, what are your thoughts on the heliocentric heresy?

I have no idea what thw helio whatever it’s called is...but i do know that cancer does not befall completely innocent people. Sorry...you and many others may find it easy to believe that but most people are in some sort of hypnotic denial too. I provided the path to the remedy alreadyu for anyone wanting it.

I haven’t been following any of the threads on his death (assuming there have been more than one). I only feel sorry for his family as I would for anyone who loses a loved one. I”m sure his death will be disruptive for his company and I’m glad for the part he played in the Mac computer I’m typing this on. But mostly my heart hurts for his family. It’s hard to lose a loved one.

The heliocentric theory is that the earth orbits the sun rather than the other way around. It was quite controversial back when most folks thought disease was caused by evil spirits.

He may have made our lives a little easier but it’s not like he was a cop, firefighter or serviceman who gave his life in the line of duty. World of difference.
