Fake Marine Problem. Help.
myself | 10/11/2011 | Grapeape

I think that I may have stumbled onto a very large problem. I am working with a guy that says that he was a Marine and I am 99% sure that he isn't. He has got a really great story going and he has fooled a lot of people. I need a place to go to so that I can prove that he isn't a marine.

I can already proove several of his other stories are fabrications but this is the key. I have read online that is a rather big problem, especially for the Corps and the Seals. Can anyone tell me where to go to find out if this guy ever served?

Thanks for your help.

Thanks for the link. I went there because that is where I went to find the commandants office. The reason I went to the commandants office is because he said that he was in charge of the commandants security. The problem is that he never used the words "security detail."
Wouldn't a marine call it that? I also don't remember the commandant having a security detail. Do you guys?

He is using it to his advantage. I believe him to be a socio-path that lies to get what he wants.

Ask to see his DD214.
There usually is no question if he belongs to a veteran service group like the Viet Nam Vets, VFW. or the American Legion. He must present that document (DD214) to their membership chair or committee to gain membership. If he doesn’t belong to those (all have specified times of conflict to become a member, VFW also requires an overseas theater campaign ribbon.

He can be a member of the AMVETS or any other veteran service groups etc whch doesn’t have those restrictions. But in any case they all require presentation of the DD214 for examination and verification.

Ask him if he belongs to any of those if he doesn’t ask him why he doesn’t .

I know a guy who claims he was in charge of the detail to protect the white house. I outed him, to my own satisfaction and refused to deal with him any more after that. He owns a shoe store locally and I simply won’t buy shoes there. I don’t make a big deal of it, but keep my own council(sp?).

The guys purpose is to get what he wants. He uses the Marine Corps as a vehicle to give him credibility. This guy has to be the center of attention at all times. He uses his supposed experience as a way to make money and influence people. It really, really pisses me off.

I have been out of the military a long time and I don't remember the GOs or their order, except for the 12th:). I remember my position, which was Turret Mechanic but can't remember the MOS number, but I could look that up on my DD214.

There used to be a website where you could type in the name and Unit of any member of the service and it would give you the units they served in, the dates and location. I found some of my old army buddies using that site.

Although I try not to give to panhandlers one guy was telling me he was a former Marine (former Marine?) so I gave him a few dollars and said, “Semper Fi.” His reply was, “huh”? LOL

Get a real Marine you know to strike up a conversation with the phony. A real Marine can usually expose a fake pretty easily.

A conscientious veteran will record his DD-214 in the county records, which should be available to you online.

Ask him if he was in the 4TH recruit battalion at MCRD Parris Island, and tell him you heard they were the toughest on PI....

(The 4TH Recruit Battalion is the Women Marines recruit training Battalion)

It gets posers every time.

ANYONE who readily claims to be a SEAL in everyday conversation, I can assure you, is NOT a SEAL!

There were about 200 SEALs during the entire Viet Nam War. I've met about 650 of them.

YOU LOST YOUR CHIT!!! We think the same. I was about to say ask him how he liked the “quigley.”

But, I wouldn’t waste my time trying to “catch” a phony. Eventually any fraud will lose track of the lies. Think Obama

Hahahaha...I like that.

Personally, I have been in a position over the last decade and a half or so to give final approval over hires in our company...many of whom were prior service personnel. I get many of our recruiters telling me this guy or that guy was a Seal, Recon, Special Forces or ParaRescue(sp)...only to pull the 214 and find out they were in some admin or rear position assigned to whatever specialized unit they claimed...have to say, Navy Corps-men (as the messiah would say) were the worst at making claims...dunno why.
