Exclusive: Two women accused Cain of inappropriate behavior By: Jonathan Martin and Maggie Haberman and Anna Palmer and Kenneth P. Vogel October 30, 2011 08:00 PM EDT

During Herman Cain’s tenure as the head of the National Restaurant Association in the 1990s, at least two female employees complained to colleagues and senior association officials about inappropriate behavior by Cain, ultimately leaving their jobs at the trade group, multiple sources confirm to POLITICO.

The women complained of sexually suggestive behavior by Cain that made them angry and uncomfortable, the sources said, and they signed agreements with the restaurant group that gave them financial payouts to leave the association. The agreements also included language that bars the women from talking about their departures.

In a series of comments over the past 10 days, Cain and his campaign repeatedly declined to respond directly about whether he ever faced allegations of sexual harassment at the restaurant association. They have also declined to address questions about specific reporting confirming that there were financial settlements in two cases in which women leveled complaints.

POLITICO has confirmed the identities of the two female restaurant association employees who complained about Cain but, for privacy concerns, is not publishing their names.

Cain spokesman J.D. Gordon told POLITICO the candidate indicated to campaign officials that he was “vaguely familiar” with the charges and that the restaurant association’s general counsel had resolved the matter.

Since when did anyone making an accusation like that end up agreeing to a settlement where she paid his legal bills and had to leave the company?

“Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”

Maybe she was rebuffed and decided to exact her revenge? Like that as never happened before.

I wouldn’t rule out Perry having a hand in this. He’s competing with Cain for conservative votes. He’s scrapped the bottom of the barrel in Texas campaigns, I’m sure nothing would stop him from doing it at the national level.

This was pretty inevitable. It’s the way the Dems killed Newt Gingrich and nearly killed Clarence Thomas: unfounded charges where the mere charge is sufficient.

Cain likes Romney and had supported him in the past and probably wants to be his VP, so while this may be from the Romney camp, I doubt it. But I also doubt that this comes from the Perry camp, if only because there’d be no benefit.

I’d suspect it’s from the Dems, as usual, because it has been very effective for them in the past. What’s bizarre, of course, is that their guys can be involved in the most outrageous sexual and financial scandals, and everybody just shrugs. But even an implication that a GOPer may have looked cross-eyed at somebody seems to unleash the dogs of war.

The media has been feigning surprise over the rapid ascendancy of Cain. Now that they’re realizing he’s a serious candidate who just might win the presidency, the weapons come out.

They’re going to do whatever they can to take him down. Romney is acceptable to them. A real conservative like Cain who can take back the White House for the American people is public enemy number 1.

B.S.. It certaintly could be Mitt, but to rule Perry out is absurd. He’s struggling in the polls and for the first time in weeks managed to do an interview without tripping over his tongue and might have a little momentum. He decides it’s time to strike with this B.S. Perry and Cain are competing for the same voters. Texas politics is as dirty as any in the country.

Liberal Establishment-Orchestrated Character Assassination. I KNEW THIS WAS COMING.

This man is a THREAT TO THE WHOLE STINKING CORRUPT LIB-DEM/RINO POWER ELITE STRUCTURE.

Let's see if the GOP field gets behind Herman, or if they let him twist in the wind (sorry for the allegory) and look the other way. Seriously, I am so sick of this in the USA, but I am not surprised, it was only matter of time. Maybe better they sling the mud now rather than in December or January. Let them "bring it on!" And, as Herman might say, "as long as they spell my name right." Let us leverage this negative energy, as in aikido, into a positive (increased name ID), and fling these high-tech lynching buggers right back on them.

I would not trust anything a group of black women say about a conservative black male candidate.

I’ve met far too many groups of minority women who have learned the ropes of victimhood all too well, and know their is very to nor risk for false accusations against men of honor, while all burden of proof is placed upon the accused.

Sorry,...the entire class of corrupt liars whom our legal system has allowed, condoned, even promoted to file false accusations is now embedded into the American intuition of their reputation as a group.

IMHO, they have the burden of proof and until it is shown, should be treated with hostile disdain.

If there is any doubt that Cain is seen as a major threat this erases it, the long knives are out for him now, but it wont work.

Go Cain 2012!

we’re taking back our country!

They probably should have waited until he got the nomination.

That tells me it's not the left behind this but one of Cain's RINO opponents.

Remember, two people benefit from Romney getting the nomination - Romney and Obama.

Cain said he was ready for his “high tech lynching”. Didn’t he?” <<<

Brilliant observation, Wife. He knew this was coming, don’t you bet? The media will get a pass since it isn’t really “racist” in nature. They will put the racist business on Rick, and THICK, in order to save Romney. All the conservatives are going to get a full frontal assault.
The media can stomach Romney RINO, and have grown tired of Obama. The rest of our field HAS to be eliminated by smear and innuendo, which sadly works among some conservative voters, against the conservative tier of candidates.

What makes you think it is DemocRATS behind it, initially? I know how Karl Rove and his RINO/Establishment machine, to destroy good people, works. Just sayin'. No proof, but my left leg is acting up.

I’m going to jump in here.

It is the left. No Question.

Nothing in the world threatens the lock on the black vote, the white guilt crowd and subsequently the left’s power more than a Black Republican president.

Nothing.

Lots of ambiguity from the Cain camp on this one. Let’s see how well his political team defends this...a trial by fire to show off their chops.

Time to respond by going to heavy OFFENSE. Ramp up donations to Herman Cain (and FR for that matter) two fold, if your bill fold can handle it.

For every attack they level, just tell them we are going to dig in and ramp up and organize even more. Don't flinch, it will show weakness. These lowly scumbag people only understand STRENGTH and UNWAVERING RESOLVE in the aftermath of their drive by attacks. We can DO IT. We can slingshot this negative energy right back on their own asses. It can be done. Keep your powder dry.
