We're Not Electing a Messiah
American Thinker ^ | November 25, 2011 | R. Clayton Strang

No one is perfect. No one. Not a single one of us has led a completely blameless life. We've all said something that we wish we hadn't. We've all lied, cheated, or stolen. We've all done or said hurtful things. Imperfection is a reality of the human condition. We know and accept that we are flawed. We realize that our parents, brothers, sisters, friends, and neighbors are flawed. If we accept this as true, why do we expect more from our potential elected leaders?

Every day, you can turn on the cable news, or go to your favorite news or blog sites, and hear all about the Republican presidential candidates and how imperfect they are. We all know about the sexual harassment allegations against Herman Cain. Most agree that these charges have probably been completely fabricated. That being the case, we are then subjected to constant criticism of his campaign's handling of these allegations. Now we get to hear all about his flubbing of a question on Libya. The mainstream media has force-fed us clips of Rick Perry having a bit of a brain freeze during a debate. We know all about Newt Gingrich's past marital problems. He appeared in an ad with Nancy Pelosi, and he's criticized Congressman Paul Ryan. We hear these attacks daily from both sides of the aisle. These stories are designed to convince us of something that we should already know: no one is perfect!

It depends what people mean by “no candidate is perfect”.

Seriously? Nice dodge, bill clinton. Let me try again to make the point.. Perhaps we should be looking at the totality of the candidate...their overall value instead of focusing on the flaws and disqualifying every one for one thing or another. Let me give you an example... Did Newt endorse Dede Scozzafava for Congress? Yes he did. Did I agree with it? No I didn't? Is Newt better than Obama for President. Yes he is. Would I rather have Newt or Obama? Newt. Should I go on FR and try to convince everybody Newt is a scumbag? No I shouldnt. Why? Because it strengthens Obama. Now you try it...

The range of possible issues is so vast, and the shades of opinion on each are so numerous, that it is impossible to find a candidate who will exactly match your own stances. Unless, of course, you stand for office yourself. I’ve found that no one reflects my opinions so perfectly as me. I find myself in pefect accord. I never realised what a genius I was until I checked through all of the issues and found how much I agreed with me. :O

NO and HECK NO am I going to re-elect Obama!

IMHO I am also fed-up with the personal attacks that had taken place against Americans of PRINCIPLE such as Herman Cain. Not only were the attacks against Mr. Cain WERE WRONG to begin with, but they were very, very divisive as well.

False argument : Ad hominem. Just had two over-easy, thanks. Just because I shilled for Newt, as far as you know, doesn’t render my point either true or false. It will, however, give you an excuse for not having to address the issue and do the hard work of thinking.

I think Bachmann and Santorum are pretty near perfect. Cain is relatively perfect too because those sexual harassment BS stories suddenly stopped. Why? Because it was a lie!!!!!

I see no reason to abandon him (Perry).

Abandon? After his first debate, I never supported him and never will.

Falsed argument:Ad hominem. We really should ignore you...the site would be better for it.

I encourage it. Better yet you should demand that I be removed so you don't have to face any opposition.

The perfect team:

Newt - because he knows how government works.
Cain - because he knows how the private sector works.

Newt can present the ideas and Herman can make them work for a conservative result.

Obamacare has got to go.

So far only Michelle Bachman has really attacked Obamacare and she has no chance now of winning.

You are brilliant in these statements. We must support Bachmann as President and Cain as her Vice President. I would not mind a Cain/Bachmann combo either. Santorum is another incredible conservative. The rest STINK!!!

Thanks for an actual discussion of the candidates, I’d be happy to have one with you. It gets tiring arguing with the pit bulls with tiny brains around here, but someone has to do the dirty work and clear the path for others to talk. Did you see what they did to a grandmother on this thread. Can’t sit back and watch them gang up on her.

Huntsman is the only one who has disqualified himself for me. The second he sounded that odious argument about people who ignore science on the global warming thing he was out. As if there aren’t 1000 lfetists “scientists” out there willing to say anything to advance their political agenda.

Paul is a little nutty BUT HE’S STILL BETTER THAN OBAMA. At least we could count on the Fed getting it’s just attention. All the rest are even miles better than him, so it really torques me to watch those who think this a game of “my candidate is more perfect than yours” constantly battering away at some pretty decent people. I will take any of the other 7.

In the end we all only get one vote, thank god.

The hard work of thinking? Oh, that's rich.

All you are doing is accepting Newt's word that he is serious about border security as he simultaneously shills for amnesty and a guest worker program. Shall we look at the history of those inside the Beltway who have done such?

Simpson-Mazzoli was supposed to secure the borders after amnesty and it didn't.

We were supposed to build a thousand miles of border fence. RINOs such as KBH blocked most of the construction.

McCain added secure the borders first to his call for amnesty. And hasn't done squat to facilitate border security.

Both Obama and Napolitano have declared the border to now be secure when it is not.

Yet you would have us believe that a consummate Beltway insider such as Newt is vastly different from his brethern, and we can trust him this time around. Yeah, sure...

So I am the one looking at the long and sordid history of amnesty pimps in this country and their rank insincerity about securing the border. I am the one actually thinking and evaluating history. You, to the contrary, are in campaign shill mode, which means you will attack anyone who questions the veracity of your candidate.

Bite, zombie, bite.

Four more years of obama or not is, in my opinion, up to the Republican Party. If they give me someone to vote for, fine.If not I will not vote write in.

In the past, the Republicans have made it almost impossible for a Conservative candidate to be nominated or be on the ballot. The few times that a Conservative candidate has beaten the odds and actually made it on the ballot, the Republicans have joined forces with the Democrats to defeat them at the polls. Katherine Harris form Florida is but one example of this. They knock out the Conservative candidate and then cry, "Vote for and support our guy.It is either them or the Democrat!"

In the past, that line has worked well on me. In 2008, in spite of me saying that I would not vote for McCain, I did. The deciding point was when he picked Sarah Palin as his running mate. But I stlii did and still do not feel right about doing it. I promised myself that never again would I vote for the lesser of two evils. Never again would I vote against someone. If I voted, it would be for someone.

My first choice was Sarah Palin, but since the Republican Party, the main stream media, and members of this forum have made it plain to her that there is no way she wiuld be the Republican nominee,my next choice is Herman Cain. After that , forget it. If the Republicans do not wish to field a Conservative candidate, I can live out my few remaining yrars under obama. Never again will I sell my soul and vote for some who despises me more that obama does.

Cain and Bachmann are my best choices as well. Personally I think Bachmann should top the ticket but I think Cain is required at the top of the ticket. I could probably accept Santorum as well.

If the tea party capitulates to the moderates we’re finished for good.

Our crop of candidates are nowhere near as weak as the media will have people believe.

I tend to agree with you. These so-called "debates" are distorting the process and the candidates. Under normal circumstances, some of these candidates would be gone but even the weakest can continue because all they have to do it hang on until the next "debate", or a free forum.

I have seen these folks when they have had 10 minutes to speak without responding to others' attacks. It puts them in a whole new light.

Who came up with this process of debate after debate? All it does is wait for someone to say something untoward and the rest, and the media pounces.

No, your opposition is really not a problem, I believe in free speech. Just a shame you use yours tearing down instead of building up...and attacking grandmas as RINOs...lol.

Romney

Who needs a big gov't chump in the mix - our goal is to defeat that/Obama. Let him peddle his wares on the rat ticket.
