First, there is England. Then there is "Britain" (England + Wales) which is not a commonly used term. Then there is "Great Britain" (England + Wales + Scotland) Then you have the "United Kingdom" (England + Wales + Scotland + N. Ireland). And then you have the "British Isles" which is all of the above + the rest of Ireland.
Even that woman in the field in Monty Python and the Holy Grail didn’t know who the Britons were,,, and hell, she WAS one.

Over there, they all all Brits. But do not call them English, because there is the England part of Great Britain-UK.
There is the Scot part of GB and the Irish and the Welsh etc-but they are all Brits. I got educated on that the times I was over there.
Best thing to do is if you are in Scotland to call them Scots, etc. They DO NOT like to be identified as English, which they arent.
