Rep. Paul Ryan of Wisconsin, the influential Budget Committee chairman, has kept his distance from the GOP primary. But after reading Newt Gingrichs latest comments about entitlement reform, he says the contenders must seriously address the debt crisis, not play political games.
[snip]
This is not the 1990s, Ryan says. The Mediscare is not working and we should not back down from this fight. I, for one, believe the country is ready, theyre hungry for it. They are ready to hear real solutions. We shouldnt wait around for the status quo to become popular.
Leaders dont follow the polls, leaders change the polls, Ryan says. We have moved so far in advancing entitlement reform, not just in Congress but in this [presidential] race, with most of the candidates embracing comprehensive entitlement reform. That has been a very good thing. At this point, we should be moving forward, not moving backwards.
Ryan adds that he is still undecided about whether he will endorse a candidate. But his message to Gingrich and the rest of the field is clear. Leaders need to go out and change things, speaking to people as adults, he says. We should not shy away from this fight, even though we know the Democrats will demagogue us.

I wonder if Ryan on anyone’s VP short list?
I am liking Perry/Bachmann or Perry/Palin more every day.
All Newt is saying is that a solution should not be 'imposed'. As a candidate running for POTUS who would like to beat 0bama, he's right about that. God willing, the right fiscal solution will be passed by the next Congress in January, 2013.
Me to Ryan ... we don’t care what you think.
I wish he had run for President.
I’m starting to lean Perry and a strong-conservative-to-be-named-later myself.
Mr. Perry may suprise some folks in Iowa.
“Me to Ryan ... we dont care what you think.”
I suggest you do. Ryan is one of the brightest lights the Republicans have and he is getting important things done, while others merely talk.
BUMP
I don’t buy the media spin that Perry is a Bush Jr.Perry is very right of Bush.
I understand supporting Newt because he the best of a bad group that have a chance. Don’t kid yourself in thinking he’s a conservative though. Unfortunately the only consistent conservative in the race, Santorum and Bachmann, are at the bottom of the pack. I don’t understand all this rah rah Newt stuff. Let him be the nominee. Vote for him. But don’t be excited about it.
two other random thoughts:
If perry’s trend continues, he’ll be in the negatives by March.
I wish Michelle would go home and take care of the kids. If she no longer has kids at home, she should go get some more - I can’t stand her nagging. I bet her husband wears ear plugs after dinner. I bet she hasn’t cooked a good meal for her husband in 15 years.
“... he says the contenders must seriously address the debt crisis...”
Few Americans understand how horrible the debt load is that politicians are passing on to our children and grandchildren and their grandchildren.
Rick Santelli provided a lesson on CNBC this morning, in which he translated the trillions in this year’s budget into a family-type situation by crossing off 8 zeros from the government budget office figures. The numbers he used are from government figures as of this morning:
Annual Income:$23,100
Money spent: $36,140
New credit card debt: $13,030
Total credit card debt: $151,140
Cuts in spending: $385
He remarked how PITIFUL it was that the Congress and the President were fighting over this pathetically tiny number of cuts in next year’s budget.
But then, I've long since given up on political strategizing. I don't think any of them are very good at getting the message out.
I’m excited for anyone with the ability to exterminate the anti-American vermin in the White House.
I will proudly support whoever we end up with. I just have a current opinion on who that should be. Hell, I would even vote for Ma “Corndog Eatin’” Bachmann if I have to. I doubt that’ll be the case though.
Hoping for a brokered convention and a draft of Christie/Ryan. We need tough guys with integrity who can get things done.
