Alexandra Pelosi, daughter of House Minority Leader and former Speaker Nancy Pelosi, told Big Government this week that her mother wants to leave Congressand that she remains in Washington only at the behest of her campaign donors.
During a telephone interview, Ms. Pelosispeaking from a friends home in New York Citydescribed her mothers predicament:
She would retire right now, if the donors she has didnt want her to stay so badly. They know she wants to leave, though. They think shes destined for the wilderness. She has very few days left. Shes 71, she wants to have a life, shes done. Its obligation, thats all Im saying.
Pelosis revelation is significant, given that her mother pushed to serve as Minority Leader after the Democrats historic losses in the 2010 midterm elections, and that many Democratsincluding President Barack Obamaare campaigning on the expectation that she will be restored as Speaker if they can retake the House in 2012.
Alexandra Pelosi, 41, is a television producer and documentarian who won multiple Emmy awards for her work on Journeys with George (2002), an HBO documentary on George W. Bushs 2000 presidential campaign. The film was widely hailed as fair in its depiction of a president not used to sympathetic media portrayals.
In speaking to Big Government, Pelosiwho was polite and friendly throughoutalso criticized CNN anchor Anderson Cooper:
Look, you guys are journalists, so you do what you have to do. I could give you chapter and verse on whats going on in the mediaand Im not talking about Andrew Breitbart, Im talking about Anderson Cooperso as long as you guys tell the truth, just write whatever you want, and feel free to call me anytime.
In a follow-up exchange text message, Pelosi elaborated on her remarks about Cooper:
I make television-i know about editing! I worked at NBC for 10 years+ 11 for 11 I edit for a living. I just I know for a fact that 60 minutes and cnn have edited NP [Nancy Pelosi] out of context! XO, A
Minority Leader Pelosis departure would make room for her deputy and former rival, Rep. Steny Hoyer (D-MD), who currently serves as Minority Whip.
Hoyer is widely seen as more moderate than Pelosi. She opposed his election to the party leadership in 2006, choosing instead to back the late Rep. Jack Murtha (D-PA), despite his ethical challenges.
Not guilty.
No.. Guilty by association, amongst other reasons.
Yep, by the signature of her hand. She is responsible more than anyone else in bringing about this catastrophe.
You made the point better than I did......
Give her a broom stick and let her ride to hell.
And retire to a non-extradition country ...
Gee, you'd think there were not other corrupt RATS in the bay area equally willing to feed at the public trough.
You'd also think the donors weren't savvy enough to depreciate out their investment.
Yes; she seemed like a decent; likable person.
Babies have a hard time giving up the teet.
Babies have a hard time giving up the teat.
Pelosi doesn’t like being in the minority. And many Dems like Barney Frank want to leave Congress because the sh*t is about to hit the fan with the collapse of the welfare state. Congress can no longer play Santa Claus and must now focus on cutting spending. It’s no fun anymore.
Ok what’s up? I mean so many politicians like Barney Frank, etc. are all stepping down. I wonder if they know something that we should know and they are getting out before the sh*t hits the ceiling. These people are power hungry something got to give for them to “retire”.
This once great country she's messed up has very few days left. She can't leave office soon enough. There's the door.
“She would retire right now, if the donors she has didnt want her to stay so badly.”
Hmm....bought and paid for.... Now, exactly who are these buyers?
The same thing happened in 1994 after the Republicans took control of Congress. A lot of the old time RATs decided to retire because they were no longer calling the shots.
It took them 12 years to get back into power and look at what's happened in just 4 years.
No.. Guilty by association, amongst other reasons.
Maybe Laz can give the final verdict.
WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER!!!!
Earlier today, Galleon Group founder Raj Rajaratnam was convicted and sentenced to 11 years in prison on insider trading charges involving 35 stocks, among them Google (GOOG), Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), IBM (IBM), and Goldman Sachs (GS).
However, if Rajaratnam had been a US Senator rather than a $7 billion hedge fund manager when he made the trades in question, there would be no criminal proceedings at all. Believe it or not, the Securities and Exchange Act does not apply to members of Congress, according to Craig Holman, legislative representative at government watchdog group Public Citizen.
Alexandra, we all want your mom to leave Congress, too.
