I knew there was an anti-missile exercise going on here with the US this month, but for some reason, they're talking about deploying thousands of US troops to Israel. That makes it sound like they plan to stay a while (Hat Tip: Betty W).
Calling it not just an “exercise”, but a “deployment”, the Jerusalem Post quotes US Lt.-Gen Frank Gorenc, Commander of the US Third Air Force based in Germany. The US Commander visited Israel two weeks ago to confirm details for “the deployment of several thousand American soldiers to Israel.” In an effort to respond to recent Iranian threats and counter-threats, Israel announced the largest ever missile defense exercise in its history. Now, it’s reported that the US military, including the US Navy, will be stationed throughout Israel, also taking part.
Also confirming the upcoming US-Israeli military missile exercises is JTA.org - 'global news service of the Jewish people'. In their account, they report, 'Last week, plans for Gen. Martin Dempsey, the chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff, to visit Israel in January were leaked to Israeli media; his visit likely will coincide with the largest-ever joint U.S.-Israel anti-missile exercise'.

We had Patriot missile batteries in Israel during the Gulf Ware.
Its a relatively long planned exercise, to war game Israeli and us anti missile systems. You’ve likely heard of Iron dome, but the US and Jews have collaborated on a number of other systems including a replacement for the patriot system and integrating all the short/med range systems with THAAD. BTW our troops are headed to Jordon to make sure syria does not launch the 600 chem missiles in the Jordan Israel direction.

Additional spending increases in the Jewish state will guarantee the manufacture and deployment of three more Iron Dome systems by the end of 2012. The Israelis are hoping to eventually have at least a dozen of the anti-missile systems deployed along its northern and southern borders.
Obama is CinC but in some things, he basically has no choice.
Take the OBL operation. Does anyone really believe he had a choice. When the truth comes out, we will probably discover that he delayed it as long as he could, but he couldn't stop the operation. Think about it. Dozens and dozens of people knew what was going on. If Obama refused to act, somebody is going to spill the beans and Obama is toast because he refused to take out OBL.
Can you imagine top generals briefing Obama? They probably wouldn't be able to stop laughing if it wasn't so serious. Realizing Obama is a putz and a pushover, maybe the military is simply going ahead on its own. Or, there is a veiled threat to go public if the CinC refuses to "do the right thing".

I can see a scenario in this. I think the Messiah may hope that if Israel hits part of the Iranian nuclear works, there will be missiles into Israel. If any of those missiles kill American troops, the Messiah could say that Israel is responsible for U.S. troop deaths by attacking Iran.
The Messiah will get the idiots and antisemites to chime with this moronic chorus and maybe some of my Liberal co religionist, also.
It is NOT unthinkable that the kenyan would attack Iran or bait Iran into shooting a missile at a US warship to set the festivities going. That particular war in the summer of this election year would bid fair to get him re-elected handsomely, especially as reverses or disasters would likely not occur before the vote. Our president’s religion is probably Sunni rather than Shia and as such he would be eager to cleanse the world of Shiites as well as Great and small Satans.
