The only hope America has to overthrow the liberal jackass Romney is Gingrich and hopefully Santorum as VP. The heavy push for Romney is the liberal machine knowing that King Obama extensive attack will defeat Romney.

“Conservatives will still be determining the eventual nominee”

South Carolina, since 1980 has been telling the Republicans who their eventual nominee will be.

Let’s unite around our highest conservative in the polls to beat Willard, folks! Or Willard the Lib (an even worse choice than McLame the Mushy Mod) is the nominee. And Obama wins once again.

There are many people that will vote for Santorum that will not vote for newt... but that does not matter. Those of us with strong convictions should probably be taken behind the podium and shot.

“...If a person cannot convince conservatives to choose him over Mitt Romney in the primary, how can a person convince the rest of idiot filled America to choose him over Obama?”

I think that is too simplistic because people have personality preferences and their are certain as pects of each of the conservative candidates that appeal more to individual voters.

Notice how a few freepers here replied that I am right that one must go. One freeper wrote that Santorum must go and another that Gingrich must go....

I think often it’s just personal preference having to do with minor perceptions. With 3-4 consevatives diluting the vote - the one lefty “Republican” (Romney) is going to win. It’s Déjà vu. Bush, Dole, McCain...

Santorum stated he wants to ‘trim’ social security.

Seniors, both Conservative and Rats, go to the polls in droves, and they will not support a candidate who wants to cut their social security.

Santorum is the best of both worlds. He has close to Gingrich's debate skills.....

You obviously forgot your sarcasm tag.......

To be honest, I’m torn on this one.

I believe Newt has the fortitude, experience, and knowledge of deep seedced politics to make the necessary changes. I watched the video “Why is Newt so Mad” over the weekend and it cemented this belief even more.

I believe Santorum more closely matches social Conservative fundamentals.

I think Perry needs to get the hell out of the way and lets find a way to win with either Newt or Santorum - I wouldn’t have a problem voting in either direction, but I think Newt holds the edge. In either case, what is of paramount importance is the House and Senate races. We must be able to deliver solid majorities of principled Republicans to assist in unwinding

Whatever Newt’s faults and baggage, noone can match him in debating, intelligence and experience.

I knew there was something about this whole theory about voting for Santorum is a vote for Obama that doesn’t quite fit and that is:
If noone can take Romney out how are they going to take Obama out?

That's not a long term historical trend to fear.

Regardless of what happens in SC, the eventual nomination may very well not be determined for months to come.

Most of know full well what the media is doing again in trying to pick our nominee for us. Don't believe the hype.

While the playbook is the same as 2008, Santorum and Gingrich are not Fred Thompson or Mike Huckabee. These are two candidates who could both successfully represent Conservatives, both of whom have money, organization and are not afraid of working hard in their respective campaigns. Eventually, one will emerge as the primary challenger to Romney, and that's a one on one race I feel very comfortable with.

How is this accomplished with only three states?

Momentum. A win or a good showing in three states translates to a big bump in later primaries. Unlike many of the posters here on FR, most republican and independant voters will vote for the guy they think is most likely to win. They want Obama gone and will vote for the guy they perceive as the most likely to get that done.

Do you trust Santorum to endorse Gingrich over Romney?

I don’t.

And accomplishments, though I guess that's part of the experience equation. All of which is why I came to support him. His baggage is mostly non government stuff. His tenure as Leader and then Speaker includes an amazing string of political and legislative grand slams. No one else is close. By contrast, Santorum was simply one of Newt's foot soldiers in those efforts. He's a good guy, but he is nowhere close to Newt on accomplishment and Obama does not fear debating Santorum. Plus, while Newt's voting record is almost identical to Santorums on social issues, Santorum can more easily be painted as extreme on those issues, so you get more problems with no more benefit.

It is all about beating Romney now.

It's over. After Saturday it was obvious. Romney has the organization and the money. The others don't. Some couldn't even get on the Virginia ballot!

“Regardless of what the establishment/media says, with all his media people and money, Romney still doesn’t poll over 30%. How that translates to a winning candidate is a mystery to me.

Relax. Conservatives will still be determining the eventual nominee.”

RINO John McCain was annointed by the time the Florida election was over. It has worked like a charm every time after Reagan left office. The conservative vote will be diluted, the media will continue to tell the politically obtuse that Romney is the front-runner “jump on board the straight talk express” - and the liberal traitor will win the nomination - unless we stop doing what we have been doing that makes us lose our party.

I don't envision Romney ever getting a majority of Conservative support. The guy has been campaigning for 5 years and still only polls around 25-30% of Republican voters.

If most Republican voters believe the media (once again), then we will get exactly what we deserve, likely 4 more years of Obama. I don't subscribe to the ABO strategy being successful, especially when the Obama opponent is historically a Moderate to Liberal candidate who's track record (as a Governor) bears a striking resemblance to Obama’s

Bottom line: Who do you want facing Obama in those debates? I like Rick, but Newt will clearly show a distinct difference and make the arguments that need to be made to totally destroy Obama and expose him for the Socialist he is. No one ever says Santorum won that debate. If you want a conservative, you’re best shot is Newt.
