Texas Gov. Rick Perry, whose stock value might have fallen faster and more dramatically than any Republican in history, has decided to stop running for president.
We liken Perrys meteoric fall to the old silent movie-era actors once talkies arrived.
Yikes! was the response in both cases.

A smile like Joe Isuzu’s and a frown like Leonid Brezhnev’s. Not an easy sell.
“GARDASIL” sounds so long ago.
Why can’t people just say, “Thank you Governor Perry for your service to running for President. You did good and have a bright future.” Why the cattiness when he dropped out. Doesn’t make a bit of sense.
THANK YOU, Texas (155 delegates) & Gov Perry!
Speaker Gingrich-led Republicans
.the result: * Voting on each of the Contract with America items * Four consecutive balanced budgets * Over $400 billion of debt paid off * Major welfare reform accomplished * 11 million new jobs for America * Unemployment falling to under 4%.
"He coulda been a contender."
But here’s the real truth...
Perry Drops Out. Endorses Newt. Will Campaign and Serve.
Live Thread: Perry Press Conference [Endorses Newt]
Perry’s plans to help, going forward.
To shrink the size and scope and power of the Federal Government through his Governors connections and connections with Newt Gingrich.
Positive comments from FReepers thanking the Governor for his action and supporting the contribution to this country he will continue to make.
The more I got to know Rick Perry; the more I liked him. What is the point of a post like this? It reflects on the poster, not Rick Perry. How sad to be so small-minded.
Perry supporters, you’re true conservatives and we still love and respect ya!
What you say is true, but we who post on this thread can make a positive difference by posting the truth...as you did.
Hope Newt warned Perry of the mob out there who will be salivating to pick over his bones, mock him, and generally denigrate him, but all that carcass eating will come to be as much about Perry’s support for Newt as it will ever be about Rick Perry himself and his failed campaign.
Rick was ill served by his campaign from the beginning and was not anywhere near recovered well enough from his back surgery in Germany to mount a campaign that was already a late entry.
Hat’s off to a conservative who proved it for 10 years and only three bloopers. TEXAS WAS ALWAYS EXHIBIT A.
Perry’s rapid decline and inability to get out of the ditch was Bush’s fault. Seriously, he fell victim to the Bush bumpkin syndrome. We hear over and over again that conservatives are foolishly hoping for another Reagan, but what we are really looking for is our own slickster, a clear speaker, solid debater, no shucks and gollys and good ol’ boy colloquialisms. We are looking for the candidate who won’t embarrass us, and we are going to wind up with a real piece of crap, or Obama, if we don’t get a grip.
I much preferred Rick Perry to the serial adulterer, Newt Gingrich.
At least Texas will have a great Governor for a long time to come, and the guys on Death Row CANNOT breathe a sigh of relief.
“The more I got to know Rick Perry; the more I liked him. What is the point of a post like this? It reflects on the poster, not Rick Perry. How sad to be so small-minded”
Precisely. Not a good way to go through life.
I hope and pray God will bless Governor Perry and Anita. If anyone had any doubt of his character, he showed it today at his press conference. IMO, he stands head and shoulders above the rest. A true conservative, a man of God, a man who loves and respects his wife, and one who puts his country above ego.
He deserves our respect.
Perry was one of several satisfactory choices still in the race, but I’m glad he’s dropping out. This improves our chances of having a real candidate instead of Romney (not that I’m completely thrilled with either Newt or Santorum). I hope that Newt/Santorum will put Perry in his administration, not out of gratitude but out of respect for the character that Perry showed in making this decision while he still had a reasonable shot at moving up in the presidential race.
Gingrich for the first time in his life is in love, and it shows. His civil marriages seem to have happened to him, but he was not otherwise much invested in them. He may be ADD, but he was busy man and un-engaged at home, with wives he had no time for.
He’s a grown up now. But you can cling to the past, pick nits and roll them one by one, nurse at the teat of old news and old loves, if you think that’s the best use of your time.
Adulterers never outgrow their obsessive/compulsive behaviour.
At his age, Newt is way too old to change.
The SC voters will see through the facade of his faux conversion.
This issue is exposing a lot of nasty folks who we used to think were good freepers. You do realize that you’re spitting on a forfession of a man made to God not you, right? Just what sort of public statement would it take to cause a dirty mind like yours to stop accusing the brethren?
I agree but instead he called us “heartless” and it was all downhill from there.
Yes, I can see that you clearly know about those behaviors and that sage wisdom of yours about too old to change. Yes. I do see some obsessive-commpulsive going on, and that rigidity forever thing. Thank you for sharing. Another clinger I believe I put it, upthread. How’s that nit rolling goin’ for ya’, anyway?
It appears childish people like you never outgrow it either. I guess at your age you’re too old to grow up and mature.
Santorum may be a real Catholic but I doubt you are.
Santorum needs to put his ego aside, place his country before himself, drop out and go back to wherever he came from.
Rick Perry is twice the Conservative Santorum is!
He deserves the VP slot.
Since 2000 he has led the second largest state in the union on to be the most successful economically.
Perry stated that in his administration he would start all countries getting U.S. foreign aid at ZERO, until they proved to be our allies.
He was also the first to bring the war on religion to the forefront.
Take a look at RINO Santorums voting record:
Voted AGAINST increasing the number of immigration investigators:
VOTED AGAINST HIRING AN ADDITIONAL 1,000 BORDER PATROL AGENTS, paid for by reductions in state grants.
VOTED TO GIVE SOCIAL SECURITY BENEFITS TO ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS
Voted to allow illegal immigrants to receive the earned income credit before becoming citizens.
SANTORUM: Trim Social Security now- even if painful.
VOTED AGAINST FOOD STAMP REFORM
VOTED AGAINST MEDICAID REFORM
Voted to increase the social services block grant from $1 BILLION to $2 BILLION
VOTED TO RAID SOCIAL SECURITY instead of using surpluses to pay down the debt.
Voted to impose a uniform federal tax mandate on states to force them to allow convicted , rapists, arsonists drug kingpins and all other ex-convicts to vote in federal elections.
Santorum; Big government spender:
Some are moved on pure emotion (absolute hate; absolute love) in politics. Thought never enters the picture. This is the conservatives’ “O baaaaa ma, O baaaa ma” representation. Screw them.
They damaged him close to half as much as his record and debating performance. And the only people who could not see the damage they were doing to his candidacy was them.
The BEST governor in all the states. Not perfect but who the hell is? I’m happy to keep him here in Texas. We’ve done better then most states, even as 0 ties Perry’s hands.
But it’s only a matter of time when 0 gets his claws in Texas’ because the fix is in again. The media control everything and then the fraud finishes it.
So sad for this great country. Happy to be old and most likely outa here before it finally crashes altogether.
I bet my deceased democrat grandfather is turning over in his grave. It’s one thing to be a real democrat of long-long ago compared with WHAT they are today. The communist/muslim party IMHO
However, the real Republicans have NO smarts or nads and they give in way too easy for whatever reason.
It doesn’t help that they don’t want to rile the left and they want to stay in the good grace of the leftist elite club.
I don’t know if I agree with that. He pretty much made his bed. Nobody could have a result like that with just complaining about a guy. I don’t think people are that powerful.
“The land and money grabbing scam of the Trans-Texas Corridor finished Perry for me. Plus his legacy of trying to turn our Major highways into un-Texican toll roads. Then when I heard he wanted to be President I prayed Please G*d, No! now my plea has been heard and answered. “
Right On!!! I supported Perry and voted for him in 1998. But once the Cintra people got a hold of him, and he went on his toll road spree...that was it for me. It still bites living in a state as conservative as Texas, and still having him as governor, but after this campaign, I think people even here (me included) know our governor much better now and he’ll find the political waters of Texas a bit more crowded.
