Asking for prayers. Having surgery Monday. (Vanity)
February 10, 2012 | Self

Posted on 02/10/2012 2:53:59 PM PST by USMCWife6869

Hi all. I think this is my first vanity. I'm hoping you all don't mind, but I'm asking for prayers for myself. I'm having surgery on Monday, and I'd be lying if I said I wasn't absolutely terrified. The surgery is a core decompression of the femural head in my right hip. I have Avascular Necrosis in both hips, likely due to a lifetime of taking Steroids for Asthma.

I have 3 daughters, and I'm so afraid of something happening to me. My respiratory history is awful, and both my parents died young, and it all just makes me scared. Luckily, my husband is home, and he has been given leave to care for me post-operatively for the first two weeks. I will be unable to bear weight on the leg for 8 weeks, but my awesome Marine Corps family is already rallying to help.

Everyone here is always so generous in offering prayers and support, so I was hoping I could ask for some. Thanks so much in advance.

Please let me add my prayers to the other on this thread. Be brave and trust in the Lord and the doctors. Focus on how much better you will feel in a couple of months, after you have recovered. Anesthesiologists have various ~potions~ and they will know your history so they can make the best decision for your particular case.

As an aside, I’m 5.5 months into recovery for a broken left hip. I was non-weightbearing for 10 weeks and learned, early on, that IcyHot is a great friend for your arm and shoulder muscles when/if they get sore from using your crutches or walker.

I can’t take away your fear though I wish I could.

I will pray for you, however, and know that I feel quite sure you will come through this okay.

Good luck.

I’ve been through four surgeries and can say they’ve got all kinds of fun gadgets to make sure you’re getting the oxygen you need. Rest easy and give your fears to God. Prayers going up for a successful procedure and a comfortable recovery. :o)

I'm so sorry that your husband is so sick. My husband had cancer and died 4 years ago. A friend sent me a book titled The Tender Scar by Richard Mabray. He is a Southern Baptist Doctor who lost his wife. This little book is an easy read that you can go back to over and over. I have given a bunch of this book to friends that have lost their spouse. Time is the best healer and it is alright to grieve. One day about a year later I realized that I wasn't sad anymore.

I now have a terminal illness myself. Pulmonary Fibrosis.

You will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Maria

In the hospital where I had cancer surgery, there is a painting of a concerned doctor attending a patient in a bed, and his senior resident looking over his shoulder...that second doctor, of course, is Jesus.

The following year I had a total hip replacement (titanium) after hobbling with a cane for two years. I was asked to walk with a walker the next day.

I can’t tell you I sprang back to an athletic status in two weeks, it took months of pulling “a muscle a day” before things started getting back to normal, and I started having confidence that I’d ever be approaching normal again (well for me at least, being a musician)

That happened in July 2010, not yet two years ago. I can run for short bursts, climb stairs, I’m on my feet all day every day, get down on the ground and up again many times (to work on a car)

I was back to just Ibuprofen only a couple of weeks after the surgery, and missed only a couple of weeks of work.

I probably could have had a faster muscle/ligament recovery period, had I not had to hobble and favore the hip for two years.

My situation is not quite the same as yours, but be prepared to marvel at all the medical miracles they can now perform, and thank God you are alive at this time in history.

The best road to a quick recovery, of course, is every thing you put into it. Most of that is good attitude and a strong resolve, because you can do it. Conversely, no one else can do it for you.

I’ll tell you one more thing...MAGIC happened when I got in the therapy pool. I could walk after my first session.

It’s a comfortable water temperature, about chest deep, and you walk through the water...sometimes you suspend from a float and “bicycle” your legs to decompress your spine.

The buoyancy takes all the weight off your legs and you can’t fall down, you can concentrate on walking forwards and sideways.

When you are not in the water, for cryin out loud..DO NOT FALL DOWN! (ask me how I know this)

Good luck with your surgery and don’t be afraid...in the course of this event, you’ll make lots of new friends who’s job and desire it is to help you get better. Be sure you go back and show yourself to them after you are all better.

It’ll make their day.

God Bless and prayers up.
