You thought it was only greedy capitalists who find California unfriendly?

le this under “There (almost) goes the neighborhood.”

Lucasfilm announced this week that despite many years of planning and investment, the continuing regulatory delays and furious opposition of neighbors has led the company to abandon efforts to build a large production studio in Marin County, north of San Francisco.

“We have several opportunities to build the production stages in communities that see us as a creative asset, not as an evil empire, and if we are to stay on schedule we must act on those opportunities,” Lucasfilm said it a statement . . .

Marin is the NIMBY capital of the world. They really don’t want him there....or at least the powerful don’t and screw anyone who is actually unemployed, they don’t count.

George Lucas made very large donations to Obama’s campaign, to his transition, and to every other Obama cause imaginable. I don’t feel bad for him when the Obama voters treat Lucasfilm just like they treat decent job creators.

And when he votes he’ll continue to vote for the very people who put the regulations in place. Your chickens are roosting George. I have no sympathy for you.

I recently made an acquaintance with a conservative who somehow managed to work on their Republic PC games production. Told me that they had one meeting with the Lucasfilm management and they were either homos or in-your-face libs.

When the budget quotes came in, these clowns were supposedly the fastest people to haggle for the cheapest production process and always insisted on 1099’s.

Good grief! Lucas film and Lucas Sound are out in the boonies
of Marin in a hidden valley that you can’t see or get to without flying over it. Been there 30+ years. Downtown
San Rafael has a big part of Lucas sound.

The big stink is the neighbors, who don’t want their idyllic
little country road littered with more traffic.

I’ve been out to Lucas Film years ago and it is so remote and hidden that, unless you know what to look for, you’d never even find the access road.

All the streams dry up in the summer, and George really likes the sound of running water, so he made a nice man made lake and lets the water run down the creek, right in the middle of the business complex, and then pumps it back up to the lake.....a nice 1/8 of a mile year round creek...

Funny. The site is in Lucas Valley, which was actually named after a 19th century rancher and landowner not related to George Lucas, but you can see how Marinites might get the idea Lucas was trying to take over the area one valley at a time.

Lucas is a big Democrat party activist I have no sympathy for him.

I do find it hysterically funny that is going to take these El primo 700 acres and turn it over to low income housing.

The rich Democratic Party scumbags in Marion County are going to get exactly what they deserve.

and how do the “low income” folks find a job and get to work living 20 miles from a population center? Where will they get groceries and medicine for their kids? Another stupid idea by well meaning and out of touch folks.

I get a real kick out of California's chasing the porn industry to Nevada. They're requiring porn actors to wear condoms [inspectors will be hired] in, of all places, San Francisco!

Gotta love them liberals. They preach sexual freedom, they teach 5 year olds about sex, they give out free condoms to encourage sex, and they offer abortions without parental approval to girls who have engaged in sex.

But if they actually catch you doing "it," you're in big trouble.

We left Marin in 1993. We just couldn’t take the liberalism anymore. The final straw came when the San Rafael city council voted to build a $1 million dollar shelter for the
illegal aliens who crowed the curbs looking for local
construction work. We sold out and never looked back.

HA HA HA. There will never be low income housing on that property. George Lucas is just saying that because he hopes his revenge would come that way. Marin County will never allow a cluster of buildings in their “pristene” boundaries, and especially on that ranch.
I had the priviledge of going to a party on that beautiful property before George Lucas bought it. It was as if it was in another world.
Anyway, I love the beauty of Marin but it is out of my league now in many ways. It’s even out of George Lucas’ league now. Amazing!
