04/22 Obama’s Ideal Government: California Jennifer Rubin

In a must-read Wall Street Journal interview with Joel Kotkin, the demographer explains the disastrous economic policies that have caused almost more 4 million people to leave the state than have arrived from other states. He explains:

“The new regime” — his name for progressive apparatchiks who run California’s government — ”wants to destroy the essential reason why people move to California in order to protect their own lifestyles.”

Housing is merely one front of what he calls the “progressive war on the middle class.” Another is the cap-and-trade law AB32, which will raise the cost of energy and drive out manufacturing jobs without making even a dent in global carbon emissions. Then there are the renewable portfolio standards, which mandate that a third of the state’s energy come from renewable sources like wind and the sun by 2020. California’s electricity prices are already 50% higher than the national average.

Oh, and don’t forget the $100 billion bullet train. Mr. Kotkin calls the runaway-cost train “classic California.” “Where [Brown] with the state going bankrupt is even thinking about an expenditure like this is beyond comprehension. When the schools are falling apart, when the roads are falling apart, the bridges are unsafe, the state economy is in free fall. We’re still doing much worse than the rest of the country, we’ve got this growing permanent welfare class, and high-speed rail is going to solve this?”

Sound familiar? This is Obamanomics. Kotkin also points to the hyper-progressive tax code, on top of which the governor wants to add a millionaire’s tax (actually on those making more than $250,000): “It’s really going to hit the small business owners and the young family that’s trying to accumulate enough to raise family, maybe send their kids ... ...

Nah.

California may be getting close, but I think he really prefers Cuba, Venezuela or Mao’s China

He likes those fullblown communist states just fine, but would not like the privation that infects those so fully. I think he prefers Europe, where there is 1) the illusion of some luxury and elegance, 2) regulation of everything, 3) total gun control, 4) all union all the time, 5) 5 parties that pretend to be different but really are just different kinds of socialists, 6) benefits that will never be paid for, and 7) tax rates that amount to upwards of 80%.

Europe is a Titanic that is taking on huge water, but it still looks good to nitwits like our American left.

If it weren’t for aging parents, we would have been out of here before the recession hit. Now we’re stuck. Although, it’s a perfect 78 degrees here in South Orange County. That is the only thing we still have going for us.

Well, as the GOP won major gains in the 2010 elections, Democrats stayed firmly in control of California.

The Democrats have comfortable majorities in both the State Assembly and the State Senate.

Every single elected constitutional officer in California, from governor on down, is a Democrat.

For better or worse, there is no way that Democrats can blame anything of a political nature on Republicans. Democrats control the levers of power in California, and have complete control. Whatever happens in California, the Democrats own it.

Or, to look at another way, Democrats have free reign to implement Democrat dream legislation in running a major American state, without the need to compromise with anyone else. We can see what an unfettered Democrat control of a state looks like.

Nah! That’s a step down. Will earn $m speaking fees and try to be an internationalist do-gooder “statesman” like Clinton. And we’ll have the Obama Library funded by Soros, Buffett, Goldman Sachs; and the Hollywood moguls.

CA is the promised LAND. The gov't not so much.

Probably best to go homeless in an RV and get a Wyoming citizenship.

public employee unions are a conflict of interest

always have been always will be

California has social programs staffed by union workers for just about everything - except teaching morality, work ethic and how to get off the rolls of social services. If union workers taught people how to be self-sufficient, there would be no need for said union workers, and that’s completely unacceptable to said union workers, who want jobs for their grandpa, uncle, nephew and cousins in social services, too.

I’m not abandoning Calif, but I am tootsweet exiting suburbia Sacramento and leaving it to the ever-increasing masses of unwashed poor, who, no doubt, will burn the town down - speed rail and all - when the social services checks stop coming, about 3 years from now, I’m guessing. Of course, the union workers will still get paid, it’s just the unwashed masses who’s checks will stop coming.

I’ll keep praying, tho, for some miracle immigration of about 5 million or so Republicans to join those hanging in here to wrestle the Golden State back from the unions, who’s own livelihood depends on producing everincreasing masses of unwashed poor who they control with dreams of entitlements.

California just needs to be able to create money out of thin air to make it a perfect libtard paradise. Then they won’t need no steenkin balanced budgets.

Wouldn’t you rather he be governor of CA than President of the US? CA is such a basket case anyway.
