I can't help but think of the scene from 'Jeremiah Johnson' were he finds the guy froze to death with the broken leg, but with the note reading Something like this:

I John Doe lay here dead because that bleep ass saw bones wanted two bricks of .22's to set my leg. Now to ever finds my body: NO YOU CAN'T HAVE MY AMMO IN TRADE FOR BURYING ME! ;-)

The difference there is John Doe wasn't in a SHTF crisis and the doctor most likely wasn't a zombie or some marauder out to murder his wife, rape his daughter, shoot his dog and steal everything he had. That said, two bricks of ammo in normal times seems like price gouging.
