Complete Disaster Non-Preparedness: DC Grocery Stores Out , Gas Unavailable, Grid-Down Heat Rages
SHTF Plan ^ | 7/2/12 | Mac Slavo

Posted on 07/02/2012 4:43:44 PM PDT by Kartographer

We’ve seen it time and again over the last decade. An emergency strikes and panic grips the city or region for days or weeks on end.

We saw a complete breakdown of emergency response and law & order during Hurricane Katrina. The 2011 Snowpocalypse on the east coast led to runs on grocery stores and empty shelves within a matter of hours. Widespread blackouts during Hurricane Ike left large sections of the Houston power grid down for up to four weeks. In all these cases gas was almost impossible to find, what was in your pantry was what you had until food distribution resumed, local water was not safe for consumption, and government response was limited to reinstating essential services first and foremost.

The bottom line, as Jesselyn Radack of the Government Accountability Project notes, is that after billions have been spent by Department of Homeland Security, FEMA and local law enforcement, we are no more prepared today than we were the day before September 11, 2011.

I read the post after it was on here and thought some wise guy might interpret it the way you did. Actually, a nude Patton would be worth watching Fox. “Nude Freeper Patton, film at 2 pm.”

“Pervert”

Hey, Kartographer brought up the nude idea - blame him - everybody blames him for anything regarding prepping, might as well add “Pervert” to his credits.

“I don’t prep because I don’t believe anything is going to happen, but if it does preppers should share with me.”

When "Y2K" was looming, a couple dozen people fed me that line.
None of them considered that what I had was enough for moderate sustenance of myself and SO - and no more.

"it's God’s will"

Favorite joke:

A preacher lived in a town that was suffering from a flood. As he stood on his front porch, a boat paddled up and the occupants said "get in, we will take you to safety." He refused saying "God will take care of me."

The waters rise, forcing him to the second story. As he looks out the window, another boat appears with the occupants saying "get in, we will take you to safety." Again, he refuses saying "God will take care of me."

Eventually the rising waters force him to the roof. A helicopter drops a ladder to him, and the pilot yells "climb on, and I will take you to safety." Again, he refuses saying "God will take care of me."

The waters continue to rise, and he drowns.

Upon passing thru the pearly gates, he meets his Maker and asks "why did you let me drown? I trusted in you!" The Lord replies: "I sent you two boats and a helicopter - what more did you want???"

After a short but unusually severe thunderstorm that roared through the D.C. area on Friday night,

BULLSHIT!!!!!

That storm system left a path of destruction 200 miles wide from Indiana to the Atlantic Ocean.

"DC Area" my aching, dieing, un-airconditioned ass!

"hundreds of thousands of residents are without power,"

Yeah ... right.

Three Million customers were without power on Saturday. WTF does this moron expect?

grocery stores and gas station are closed for lack of power,

So ... what? Are they supposed to stay open without electric utility service?

I received a message from PEPCO that most D.C.-area residents may not have power until next Friday at 11:00 pm – a full week after the storm hit.

Waaaah! Waaaaah! Waaaaah!

Guess what, Sparky. There's a whole lot of infrastructure between PEPCO's generating stations and your neighborhood transformer. You know what happens when a storm trashes 80,000 square miles of countryside? Oh, yes: A whole lot of that infrastructure, that's OUTSIDE your little view of the world, gets screwed up. It takes time to fix. There are crews out there 24x7 from PEPCO, BGE, Dominion, First Energy, and a whole bunch of others working in the hot sun to get your sorry ass air-conditioned again. Maybe you can help them? No? Then STFU, ya jackwagon!

I known nude Patton was bad for your eyes, but you really should go to an oral surgeon/dentist for your mouth.

Silver lining: If you keep your present look, you won’t have to worry about anyone coming after your stuff.

“If I owned that high rise, there would be supplies for something like this.”

No doubt that on day #1 you’d be prepared. The next day the supplies would be sold on Craigslist, the generators “borrowed” and everything else pilfered.

That is how socialism works - and nursing homes are monuments to socialist incompetence.

I hope the first thing those folks see when the power comes back on is Emperor 0bama on the golf course. This might turn those states RED in November! By the way, where is FEMA?

Pardon not necessary, you couldn’t have known. I don’t play the victim very well!

I tease my family about not being able to kill me (four near death experiences in the last ten years!) and lacking the “quit” gene. Just can’t quit, not in my family’s nature!

So I’m someone’s worst nightmare — can’t kill me and I can’t quit!

And beyond that, there are the two cases of MREs stashed down in the basement that I figure would give me another week to ten days for the two of us, in a true emergency.

>>They should warn people to leave everything off and unplugged.

When I run my generator, the first thing I do is kill the main breaker to the house, then all the branches. Even for those without generators, this wouldn’t be bad SOP after an event like this. The switching transients when they first bring up the grid in your area are not good for electronic devices. When the grid comes back up and is stable, re-energize the main and then the branch breakers. Try to have anything big, like the AC or range, off.
