I like reason #6 best.

“zombies are most often portrayed as extremely slow and stupid, yet still dangerous.”
Zombies sound a lot like Obama supporters.

Zombies sound a lot like Obama supporters.Exactly, and that's why they are so popular lately.
Liberals act like they are brain dead...their movements and opinions are not based on rational thinking or practical experience.
Zombies or pod people from Invasion of the Body Snatchers are both apt metaphors for helping us understand and express our feelings about what is happening in our world and country.
As an aside, I have also wondered if Libs are suffering from some kind of collective form of demonic possession (I particularly think of this when I hear Juan Williams defend Obama).;-)

America is a land of Zombies as we have elected the Zombie Prezzy in Obama. His followers lead him blindly off the cliff.

Let’s be honest here: Zombies, and the Zombie Apocalypse, are the socially-acceptable symbols of the just-barely subconscious fear of getting over-run by the useless eaters of society. . . .

The zombies represent the parasitic underclass in America. Zombies are the welfare queens, the gangsters, the punk-a$$es, and the drug dealers that inhabit the inner city. The zombie movies play on the fear that the hard working decent Americans have of being overwhelmed by the demands of the parasitic class, and eventually overrun by it.

"On the other hand, zombies are most often portrayed as extremely slow and stupid, yet still dangerous. That makes zombies an enemy that the average restaurant manager or accountant feels like he could realistically handle." I like my zombies on the slow side. I can't deal with those quick-moving "rage" zombies.

Hubby and I were bored one weekend, so we decided to try
The Walking Dead which was free on our streaming Netflix. My daughter had said it was good, and it has good reviews; but, neither one of us are into the "zombie" genre. So, I said if we don't like it, we can stop watching.
Well, we got hooked, so now I am a fan of The Walking Dead. My husband has decided that he thinks these type of programs are rather like the "red scare" type of movies that we were seeing in the 40's and 50's. That it is a way of playing out our fears of total societal collapse.

"I like my zombies on the slow side. I can't deal with those quick-moving "rage" zombies." Yeah if one is a stickler for Zombie lore "Rage" Zombies (A.K.A. Boyle Zombies as in Danny Boyle 28 Days/Weeks Later) aren't really Zombies. They are classified as "infected".
They don't "die" and come back to life like traditional "Romero Zombies" (Night of the Living Dead, Dawn of the Dead, Day of the Dead, Land of the Dead, etc.)
But both are terrifying and "Rage" Zombies are actually a viable threat. We are already seeing attacks of "Bath Salt/Rage Zombies" in several States in the USA. Fortunately these "Bath Salt" Zombies can't pass on their affliction by biting. But some whack job engineering a super rabies virus that can be passed by bite or scratch is a very real threat.

My all time favorite quote on Zombies from the movie “The Ghost Breakers”:
Bob Hope: You live here?
Richard Carlson: Yes.
Bob Hope: Well, maybe you know what a zombie is?
Richard Carlson: When a person dies and is buried, it seems a certain voodoo priest will have the power to bring him back to life.
Paulette Goddard: That’s horrible!
Richard Carlson: It’s worse than horrible, because a zombie has no will of his own. You see them some times, walking around blindly with dead eyes, following orders, not knowing what they do, not caring.
Bob Hope: You mean, like Democrats?

Same here. I would never in a million years have thought I would enjoy anything like that, but...Netflix can have that effect.
I was looking for something to watch (I do enjoy apocalyptic movies such as “The Omega Man” and so on, but not really zombie movies) and came across “The Walking Dead”.
I got hooked. I loved the way they developed the characters. Very stereotypical, but...it engaged me.
