"That does look better than my Harbor Freight set up. I may do that at the house to fill off my 250 gallon tank. "

Is it possible to fill the 20 pound tanks from the 250 gallon tanks?

I’ve got an adaptor that allows my (propane-fueled) home to hook up to and run off of the 12 and 20 pound tanks - I got mine at Lowes or Home Depot (I forget which) — Wonder if you can hook one of those up backwards to fill small tanks from whole-house tanks??

(Probably not a good idea to be smoking while experimenting with this... ;))

Four tanks for $20? You BASTARD! Just kidding, good for you! I gotta get out to the garage sales...I hear more and more great prepper stories like yours. You can tell a lot of folks aren’t paying attention much.

You are supposed to be licensed, but sure. It helps to have the complete pump and scale set up, but you can get 80% like the 1lbs cans from coming off the botton of the large tank and venting. You just need the right hose, fittings, tap on the bottom of the large tank and hose & fittings.

You can also run copper tubing straight to the burner, grill, generator or whatever. I recommend using the heavier .65” wall and Swagelock brand fittings. They make a PVC coated tubing that is good for burial.

It does matter whither the user is high pressure or low pressure (i.e. has it's own regulator that is normally hooked to a 20# or other size BBQ type bottle).
