The blood in his urine should help in making the diagnosis, and suggests several possibilities. Make sure he is being evaluated by the right people, including a nephrologist. Never hesitate to get second and third opinions, and push the medical staff to explain what their reasoning is for the tests and approaches they are taking.

Our PC is very quick to refer to a specialist. He has been my PC for around 20 years now. I am a bit surprised that he hasn’t done so already. But I am thinking that he waiting to find a conclusive diagnosis so he knows which specialist he want to refer him.

I am a nurse and was a Lab Tech in the AF many, many years ago. So I have a medical background that helps me navigate the ins and outs of the medical field. Mom here is going to get much more involved if this goes on much longer. I am trying to let him handle this since he is a young adult, but it is so hard to sit back and not put in my two cents worth.
