FRIENDLY FIRE ALWAYS HITS YOU IN THE BACK
Christians Uniting for Political Action ^ | August 22, 2012 | Calvin Morrow

A good friend of mine said that, ”If we can get past the brethren we can engage the enemy”. If Todd Akin shot himself in the foot with his recent comments on the abortion issue, then it’s fair to say that the GOP, Sean Hannity, Mark Levin, Sara Palin, John Ashcroft, Mr. Blunt and a host of others shot him in the head. None of the people represented the voters of Missouri; they represented liberal media and the GOP establishment. What Todd said, in reality didn’t amount to a hill of beans, but the media made it a mountain, and the leaders on our side joined them. This was a sad day for several reasons. When the conservative media forget that they have made incredible inroads into mainstream media and backslide into being fearful of how liberals portray them, then it’s a sad day. Are they so naïve to think that the left won’t try to knock down the next potential candidate? Where will they stand then? We don’t know.

If the GOP and Conservative talkers would have put one fourth of the energy that they put into trying to run Todd out of town, into supporting him, he might have had a ten point lead in the polls this morning. Instead they took their cues from the liberals and marched in unison off the edge of the cliff. Be forewarned, we the Tea Party of Missouri will not follow. We don’t need others to do the thinking for us. We are free men and free women. We appreciate good leadership from those in positions of influence; but this wasn’t leadership. This was an insult to the good people of Missouri. We don’t care what the liberal media says, and neither should our leaders.

Todd Akin was out spent ten to one and won. That win was another victory for the Tea Party. When Todd Akin defeats Claire McCaskill it will send a strong signal to the GOP establishment. They will have the choice of working out in the open with the Democrats to defeat conservatives or change their tune. The Tea Party candidates are quickly replacing the old guard and it won’t be long before the transformation is complete. Todd Akin is a very attractive candidate to the voters, because he wasn’t GOP approved; of course their support would have been welcomed, but so be it as it may.

Todd Akin is by all reasonable measurements is rock solid, therefore I urge all Missourians to gird up your loins. Find ten unregistered friends and get them registered and bring them to the polls in November to vote for Todd Akin.

Excellent and I couldnt have said it better myself. That is what I hate about the GOP gutless wonders that they are. They are not fit to govern when they panic about bad media and fear the dems trashtalking. I long for the day when SOMEONE from the GOP stands up and says GO TO HE**. Pansy-a&& weenies - the lot of them.

How could you not possibly know what he said. If you don’t how could you possibly think you had something valid to say on the subject?

He has handed the Dims a sword. I know what he meant to say, and he was wrong to say THAT.

Agree with you RobbyS, but would not use the word "wrong." Akin was not wrong in the sense of his ideas being irrational or totally out of the realm of scientific possibility.

I would use the word "unwise." Akin was unwise to fall into a trap set by the hostile, liberal media. He has admitted this and apologized for it.

Conservative politicians often try to answer a question earnestly, not evasively. We usually admire this! However in this case Akin should have done what most pols do when confronted with a question that is "sensitive" or difficult to answer articulately ... i.e. he should've punted.

But hey, all politicians, even the smartest, get caught off guard and put their feet in their mouth from time to time. Should they receive the political equivalent of the death penalty for it? I would argue that destroying Akin will HURT Republicans nationally, not help them.

I also think that Akin, paradoxically, has done some Republican candidates a favor. You can bet that GOP candidates will now
(a) have their guard up for questions like this and
(b) have their ducks in a row with a well-thought-through response.
The Dims were coming after us with this question - it was only a matter of time before they tripped up one.

There is another possible paradoxical effect of his mistake:
1. The Dims will overplay their hands with absurd, over-the-top abortion rhetoric. Barbara Boxer is already doing this.
2. Rush Limbaugh says the Dims are already planning to make their convention an "Abortion Convention." As says Rush: LET THEM.

If there is damage, the damage is done. The question is, what do we do next?

My answer to that is, first, conservatives, stop it with your own idiotic ideas ... like floating an "independent candidacy" in Missouri (a la Palin) or "staying home and not voting" (a la Dana Perrino). And stop aiding the Left by parroting their memes ... "Magical Uterus" etc. THAT is the dumbest thing to do.

Amen to your post!
You and me both! I'm also a woman.. Thank you for echoing my thoughts!

Thank you both for your replies. It is heartening to know I'm not a lone voice crying in the wilderness.

I am also heartened by some of the callers Rush is letting speak on his show today. I believe some of them are Missourians.

I'm not from Missouri. But I did grew up in an adjacent conservative state, and think I know how a lot of Missourians think. I believe they will do the right thing --and the only thing that makes sense, politically, at this point :
They will vote for Akin. And I predict Akin will win -- if conservatives stop it with the circular firing squad.

Another clue that the chattering classes may have got this all wrong:
A reporter from the St Louis Post-Dispatch on FoxNews today said that Missouri Republicans tend to be strongly Christian, and aren't necessarily going to follow the crowd, or let the elites tell them how to vote (my paraphrase). But we already knew that!

Maybe better understood if people stopped and considered that, whether scientifically true or just anecdotal, people sometimes all stressed up about trying to have kids seem to end up pregnant right away when they give up and adopt, or are given advice to relax, take a cruise, etc. Sometimes these types of arguments are more readily undestood by lay people than actual scientific studies are.

“What he said was incredibly stupid.”

Oh, horseshit. Compared to the things that libtards believe, what he said was hardly worthy of notice.

It is as El Rushbo said: when something like this happens to a demonrat, they circle the wagons. When it happens to a Republican, we circle the firing squad.

It’s what we do.

Is that the same Rush who wanted Akin to step aside for the good of the country? Yes, pubbies act differently. I like to think its because they are better people.

You agree with Akin, that a woman's body magically avoids pregnancy when she is being raped?

Yea. And I think someone who goes off without knowing the facts is a fool.
