Academy sporting goods stores ask for a zip code on every purchase. I always tell them 90210, as in Beverly Hills 90210.
Funny. Although don't have a problem giving a store my zip code. I have actually told Bass Pro in the past that I would gladly give them my zip code instead of my phone number if they want to know where (generally) I live. I hate having to drive over to the hood in Harrisburg to Bass Pro. They picked a poor location, as an anchor store in a failing mall, filled with ghetto rats. Walking from the mall into Bass Pro gives one a feeling of relief. It is like walking into a DMZ, but the funny part of that is Bass Pro allows customers to carry concealed, despite the check your guns sign as you enter the store. The sign applies to customer returns, not customer self defense. I think they like the idea that there are honest, law abiding Americans that would not hesitate to open up on the hyphenated Americans that cause problems at their location all the time.
Maybe giving my zip code to Bass Pro would provide data to move the store across the river from Harrisburg, when there is significantly more money, less crime, and customers that will be more willing to go to the store than buying from the Internet.
