Clint Eastwood's Convention Schtick Draws Extreme Criticism
Nationaljournal ^

The reviews continue to pour in on Clint Eastwood’s appearance at the Republican National convention Thursday night, and "mixed" might be a charitable way to put it. One prominent Republican, Gov. Scott Walker of Wisconsin, said that he "cringed" at the performance.

An unattributed release from the Romney campaign defended Eastwood, according to The Wall Street Journal: "Judging an American icon like Clint Eastwood through a typical political lens doesn’t work. His ad-libbing was a break from all the political speeches, and the crowd enjoyed it,” the statement read.

I wonder if they’ll show the DNC on Comedy Central. I am so looking forward to watching it. I hope Biden will speak. This could be the funniest thing on TV in a long time.

The way you beat a Cult for Personality candidate like Obama is with ridicule and scorn. The fact that the Leftists are in such hysteria about it today shows just how effective it was

But I see from the fact that you "Anybody but Romney" campaign bots around here are screaming in hysterics about "taking the air our of Romney's speech" that you know just how effective this was.

I thought it was a fine bit of political humor, frankly. And furthermore, it upstaged Romney—which is all to the good as far as I’m concerned.

Prove to me that it was effective. I want to see some news reports like Ryan had and Mrs. Romney had saying that Romney hit it out of the park......Will be impossible since everyone is talking Clint Eastwood. lol.

Absolutely! Obama will self destruct if the criticism reaches him. He is so self-obsessed, he cannot tolerate challenges to his Utopian image of himself.

Ohh please, you spent the last 3 months racing around here urging a brokered convention to get rid of Romney. So spare us the fake posturing as if you are anything but an “Anyone but Romney” propaganda bot

Just like the birds Jimmy Stewart used to drive, along with the B-24 in WWII.

And James Stewart, a Republican,Conservative, Patriot, was a Hollywood actor, as Clint reminded us, do exist in La La Land even today. Mr. stewart also made the “Harvey” movies about a guy interacting with an invisible rabbit. And one of the things that James Stewart, the actor, was known for...

Stumbling and stuttering his lines.

In that context, Clint’s performance was spot on!

Clint was playing the part of another Hollywood legend, who loved his country.

Reminds me of the Exorcist when the priest sprinkles Holy Water on the devil figure.
The good ole devil screamed bloody murder and vile invectives
because he could not take it. Just like the progressive/dem/libs are doping now.
Go Clint, Go.

Either Romney or Obama is going to be the next President. You are spending all your time trash talking Romney, so by your conduct you are a Democrat propaganda bot.

If you don't like your political idiocy being pointed out, quit being an idiot

I wanted to like him, but Clint was very awkward and some of his points were misses (didn’t Romney go to law school, too? And I’m not sure if his point about Afghanistan really helps or hurts the GOP). Ultimately, Eastwood isn’t playing to a demographic that Romney doesn’t already have in his stable. Why would the Romney campaign risk this type of move? There is very little upside and, obviously, a lot of unpredictable downside by putting an unscripted, elderly actor on the stage right at the END of the convention and before Rubio and Romney spoke. Essentially the viewership was at its highest and a big gaffe by Eastwood could have sunk the ship. In fact, one could argue that pushing Romney’s speech past 11 PM did a lot of harm. To win this election Romney and Ryan need not take big risks, they simply have to be SMART and disciplined. Let the Dumbocrats, who are now on the defensive, make the mistakes.

You do have a tough time with facts. Everyone is talking Clint Eastwood and not Romney’s speech. FACT! Deal with it.

I spent 10 minutes listening to Rush from 12:15 to 12:25 (appx). on the way home from work and all he played were soundbytes from Mitt. Not a single one from Clint.

I read the linked article. There was no critique of what he said. Just people dismissing Clint as an old crank.

Clint is one of my all-time favorite actors, and a genius producer/director. But, not all actors are polished speakers.

The smooth and dramatic lines in his movies, are memorized scripts, usually heard only by the camera crew.

Even the 15 years when I was in radio, I ran a four hour show every day, but the few times I had to speak before crowds, I was petrified. It’s a who, different thing.

I try to see the hilarious point that Clint was making, and no concentrate on the poise, diction, and delivery.

His star-power was enough, and his routine with the chair was hilarious.

The mere fact that the obamanoids are railing over it, shows that he hit a nerve...after all, the show-biz folks are supposed to belong to them, right?

I can see this becoming the BIGGEST backfire on the left in history. Have you even heard the things they are calling Eastwood? They’re making a mistake because people like Clint and if they think Obama’s shills are victimizing him, there could be a backlash.
