But...but...but Barry said everyone was going to love us once he was elected to the presidency. Those living in this country don’t even like each other anymore! What the hell went wrong?!

Imagine if the only thing you knew about Americans came from the mainstream media. Or from speeches by the current occupants of the White House, for that matter.

I have traveled and lived all over the world and from my perspective nobody hates Americans more than Canadians, Britons, and Australians.

Ironically, a close second to those nationalities are Mexican nationalists/fascists in the US who think at the heart of the failure of the Mexican state and the oppression of Mexicans inside and outside of Mexico is the United States.

Worse yet, if we were not to limit hate of America to foreigners, the group that hates the United States most are American liberals, notably those on the academic left and their brain washed sheep in the Occupy and anarchist movements.

While there is most definitely a vein of anti-Americanism that exists in Canada, it is merely a sidebar of the distant love affair leftist Canadians have for the “progressive and advanced” socialist Utopias of Europe, namely Sweden, Iceland, and Denmark. Unsurpisingly, immigration from Canada to those havens of liberal generosity is almost nil inspite of the relative ease of doing so. Canada remains a place where people can enjoy the benefits of security, economic choice, easy access to American travel destinations and entertainment while still collecting a monthly check from Ottawa with almost no strings attached.

I do not quite know what to think of this article. He is right that Canadian liberals loathe the US but so do US liberals. The conservative freedom loving Canadians I know are worried about the US and what it means to them once freedom’s light is finally extinguished.

I always liked Mark Steyn and William Shatner.

Seriously, it's nice to know that the United States doesn't have a monopoly on nit wits.

As a still-thawing ex-Canadian in Arizona I’ve seen both sides. One faction of my Dad’s family thinks Americans are evil incarnate. The entrepreneurial side of his family loves Americans as their best customers and would line up well with Sarah Palin on conservatism. My Mom wants me to come back to Canada before the SHTF down here.

My family and I just returned from a week’s vacation in Ontario up near Georgian Bay. The folks we met there were invariably nice and displayed no disdain or superiority at all - despite it being the 250th Anniversary of the War of 1812 where they kicked us out of the area. We had a fine week of Tim Horton’s coffee, Peameal Bacon and eggs for breakfast and Poutine and steaks for dinner. If a few of them have a bug in their bonnets about us Yanks, it doesn’t seem to affect the majority. They’re good people up there.

These Canadians should make it a point to talk to Finns,Norwegians,Poles,Tibetans,Georgians and others about how difficult it *can* be living next to a powerful nation.Chats with Poles might be particularly enlightening because in the recent history *they've* seen the potential consequences *twice*.

Most of it is injected here and there in the Canadian mere colonials by Britons. Many Canadian conservatives (left-leaning by American standards, being British identity) also try to identify more with the British against Americans. Remember Diefenbaker? The attitude goes way back. They have a different kind of nationalism from Americans (more from symbolism, less from deeds). In efforts to distance themselves as much as possible from being identified as Americans, they go through identity crises. During several recent elections over the past couple of decades, some of the more conservative candidates (by our US standards) were publicly accused of being “too American.”

There are generally four types of people who hate the U.S.: leftists, Islamists, the envious, and the merely stupid. Leftists and Islamists hate us for obvious reasons: they're totalitarians and want to destroy freedom anywhere they see it. Many people are envious and of course, a lot more are just morons. There are, of course, combinations of the four types.

Anti-American Canadians might be a special category, because of the proximity and closeness in culture and speech of Canadians to Americans (sorry anti-American Canadians, it's real close). However, on a number of trips to Canada (including one to Alberta last year), my wife and I have found Canadians to be very nice people. In one situation, as we were returning to our car after visiting a Canadian monument in southern Alberta, we noticed a man standing in back of our car staring at it. He spoke "from Wisconsin, eh!" We said ah yes, not quite knowing what to expect. The very friendly man then proceded to talk our heads off about how much he liked the U.S. So gross generalizations are pointless. Of course there are many obnoxious, stupid Americans. Many of them will gathering next week in N.Carolina. Every country has them. Does no good to get excited because some Canadian leftists, like all leftists, don't like us. Tough toenails.

Canadian liberals are just like your American ones, but its just that they don’t need to pretend to actually like America...

As an ex-Canuckistani from BC, the author hit it out the ballpark.

When I was in high school, the only thing we were taught is how evil America was.

This from a country who gets their patriotic fervor from a beer commercial (Molson). My favorite moment back in school was “if we are part of the Commonwealth, then why do we have to put French as the official language?”

Canadians are the best friends Americans have, period. They will go to the wall for us long before Israelis or Brits.

Remember who risked their lives, hiding our diplomats that weren’t taken hostage in Tehran? Not the Brits or anyone else.

It was the Canadians. They made our diplomats Canadian citizens with fake ID’s and smuggled them out.

I have friends all over the world. My trust in Canadians is automatic, can’t say that about anyone else.

Although, it is not possible to have more fun in a bar than with Aussies.

“In fact, their views only exhibit their insurmountable ignorance and the nonsensical and hypocritical nature of their conformity.”

Some 4 decades ago, I was a student at a northern US university (bordering Canada). It never ceased to amaze me when I would hear the Canadian hockey players,ON SCHOLARSHIP, bitching about what a “raw deal” they we’re getting in the States.
