Anybody else give Michigan a better grade than a D-? I give us a C or even a C+.

If we could gut the influence of the unions and accustom the people to not lashing themselves to the government I think Michigan would get and A- (some folks just hate cold and snow...their loss).

I really want to go home to Michigan and retire but right now it is just too crazy, even up north.

"Dogs are not allowed on the Route of the Hiawatha."

There's a problem.

The Hiawatha trail is privately operated, and you have to pay to use it. They may have had “issues” with dogs in the past (more likely with the dog owners). Plus, it has some long, dark tunnels which may have been a contributing factor.

Dogs are allowed on the CDA trail, and it’s assumed that the owners are responsible for biohazard removal.

1.7 mile long pitch-black tunnel and several bridges hundreds of feet high might have something to do with it...

Disoriented dogs in long train tunnels and lots of people on bicycles moving at different speeds. What could possibly go wrong???

So Idaho is the only grade ‘A’ place to live in the U.S.?

You guys are seriously debating whether this is true instead of rolling your eyes?

Anyone lucky enough to be living anywhere in the United States has already won life’s lottery.

That’s what I believe, anyway.

I AGREE with your assessment of this guy, even though I don’t live in Texas. Thanks for your thoughts.

Personally I am glad everyone is more or less turned off by thinking Alaska is nothing more than a giant icebox, so I won’t even start about the pros of living here.

They’re all wrong, it’s not an icebox, Alaska, it’s a modern refrigerator!

Washington Pros: the eastern half of the state is quite nice and much different from the coast Cons: way too much rain along the coast, volcanoes, wildfires, insane politicians, ridiculous regulations, political correctness, not enough jobs, possible tsunami threat along the coast, Seattle Overall Rating: C

We are wishing hard for rain out here. Jobs are plentiful, it's not *that* politically correct, and I happen to like Seattle very much. It's actually north and very south of Seattle that the die-hard socialists have taken over. We also have some of the best-for-cost healthcare in the country, a distinct non-materialistic and compassionate culture, and yummy fresh seafood.

C+ is good. What insane regulations do we have? Maybe I’ve never been on the wrong end of any. Don’t see power plants as being a con either.

Ditto for your take on Ann Arbor aka Berkeley East.

Big ol' dopey (albeit friendly) Black Lab blunders into already-paranoid teen-age girl in mid-tunnel...

Chaos erupts.

I can say this, I have seen many a person move here and then part way through winter sell off all they brought with them so they can get someplace warmer.
To me thats a strategic asset, for a defensive posture having literally dug in for many years, having adapted and acclimated to the extreme cold, having pre-placed supply positions ahead of time plus a familiarity with the bush it makes Alaska the perfect place to defend.

Arguably the major city like Anchorage will suffer from a complete shutdown of flown in food stuffs and supplies, those that live in the rural areas will marginally be affected.

Not even a mass invasion of foreign troops could remove dug in natives that would be silent stalking ghosts in the bush.

maybe in the lower 48 you can harness pit bulls to pull a wagon, in Alaska we breed dogs that can out pull and out run any horse and at sub zero temps. Living off the land is in some ways much easier in Alaska, especially away from any game ruled areas.

Sure its tough, but tough survive. The best things in life are dangerous.

I live in a small Michigan town. Looks like that one mile from our house. THAT’s what I like about Michigan. ‘Course those same lonely road are impassable some winters. ;)

CC, do you get to Lost Nations? I could drive around in there all day just looking around. Hope it stays wilderness-like.

I tell you, it’s something to envy (the dogs especially in my current mood), but it’s not for everybody.

PA’s income tax is a flat 3.07% and doesn’t tax pensions. I’m not crazy about the 6% sales tax but better that than high property taxes.

As the scorpians and insects can be controlled, and as long as the AC holds up in the summer, NW SC may be the place for country living. People sure are nice out here...and predominantly conservative!

Texas sucks... don't come here. Really the girls are ugly, no schools, no unions, music sucks, everybody is stupid, racist and homophobic, no good pizza, no broadway shows, ... I could go on, but you get the drift.

If you are a liberal please rest assured that Texas is a hell hole and only smart, caring people move out to great places like Los Angeles, New York, Detroit, Lansing, Chicago where all the smart, classy people are.

Just drive on around or fly over but don't stop or land... we suck here.
