Mitt Romney was heavily involved in the extremely messy divorce of one of his key supporters ... and the Boston Globe is going to court first thing Wednesday morning in an attempt to unseal the court file as well as lift a gag order ... TMZ has learned. The divorce was between Staples co-founder Tom Stemberg and his first wife Maureen. We're told the divorce battle lasted for years and was extremely ugly.Sources tell us Romney gave both a deposition in the divorce and testified in the trial. According to our sources, the Boston Globe got a tip that there was "juicy information about Romney" in the sealed documents.Romney, Stemberg and Maureen were all served papers by the Globe notifying them that the paper was trying to unseal the case and lift the gag order enforced on all parties.According to an article in the Boston Globe in 2005, Maureen received nearly 500,000 shares of Staples stock in the divorce ... but sold have her shares before the company went public. Our sources say Tom has filed papers opposing the Globe's motion. Romney's lawyers have not responded.Tom has been a major Romney supporter, even speaking for five minutes at the Republican National Convention. We're told Gloria Allred represents someone connected with the divorce and we believe -- though we have not confirmed it -- that is Maureen. If the gag order is lifted, Maureen and others could freely talk about the divorce ... less than two weeks before the election.

If America is stupid enough to fall for this, then we’re too stupid to continue to exist and it might be a mercy for us to just get the death of the country over quickly - which is what an Obama re-election would accomplish.

One thing I know about politics: almost without fail, we get what we deserve. America is on trial. If we’re trash, I hope we get thrown in the dumpster where we belong. But I hope we’re not trash.

I agree - unless she alleged she had affair with Mitt, as the cause of the divorce. I can’t see the harm to Romney. But don’t underestimate Allred and the Globe.

Why don’t they just be honest and say, Axelrod is putting the pressure on the Boston Globe to do their bidding b/c if they do it, it’ll look too sleazy.

This is how he ran Ryan out of the race in Illinois.

There is going to be no judicial reason for unsealing records or lifting a gag order on a divorce case.

Tell that to Jack Ryan. 0bama's done this before...

This does sound stupid, a divorce more over money than anything juicy, and we’re going to find something “juicy” about Romney.

My guess is Maureen is bitter because Romney backed her husband. She sold her stock before Staples went public, so my guess is they got from Romney some comments about his investments, maybe sounds greedy or insensitive to employees, something like that.

This is how Obama wins, trashing opponents because he has nothing to offer. He didn’t have to trash McCain because McCain didn’t really want it so wasn’t a threat. Romney is a threat. At this point I am far more worried about the economy than I am ANYTHING that came up in a messy divorce years ago.

A court opened Ryan’s divorce records when even his wife wasn’t for it. And it put obama in the senate.

With crooks, I often think of how successful they would have been if they had only applied themselves to legal activities.

The Obama team can stoop to things like this, but hasn’t the motivation or creativity to create jobs for U. S. Citizens.

When given four years to produce, the Libyan embassy and this is are the sorts of things the Obama team excels at.

He was a witness in somebody else’s divorce case? Really, Gloria? Really? No. Just no. Unless you’ve got his case file for a felony OUI with him in the driver’s seat, a thermal mug of rum and Coke in the holder, and a woman other than Ann in the passenger seat, you know, something really juicy, just stahp right now.

I don’t even care if he was sleeping with her.

It would be refreshing to know he likes ladies and not bath house men.

The fate of the country hangs in the balance as some county judge In MA decides whether to blow up a national election less than two weeks before election day.

Crap

So, we’ll see a pic of weeping Maureen, with Allreddy’s arm around her. Somehow, I don’t think Maureen will come across as a victim.

I can’t imagine any justification the Judge could use to unseal personal documents that were agreed to in a proceeding.
